Triple P in Elkhart County Parent Newsletter - June 2023

This Month in Triple P: New partnerships starting this summer across Elkhart County!

School is out for summer, but Triple P in Elkhart County is heating up with new partners, virtual sessions for busy parents, and fun giveaways for attendees at our in-person events!

One of our new partners is the Beacon Elkhart Health & Aquatics Center in downtown Elkhart! We will be offering three Triple P seminars in the community rooms in the commons at 200 E. Jackson Blvd: Power of Positive Parenting on June 20; Raising Confident, Competent Children on July 18; and Raising Resilient Children on August 15. These seminars will be provided in English and in Spanish in adjacent rooms, and we will have childcare activities for the little ones.

We have also partnered with Advocacy Links, a local organization dedicated to connecting people with varying levels of ability to community resources and services at all ages. That partnership begins June 12 with a virtual presentation on Supporting Healthy Relationships and Managing Disagreements. These events are open to the public, and you can register for them online at TriplePElkhartCounty.org.

We will also be working with Premier Arts Academy to provide a presentation on kindergarten readiness for parents of incoming Premier Arts students! We are looking forward to giving parents a boost of confidence as their children start their educational journeys, and we thank the leadership at Premier Arts Academy for giving us the opportunity!

Another exciting new partnership is with the Elkhart Department of Parks and Recreation! Triple P will be coming to parks around the city during the month of June to provide information on Positive Parenting and fun giveaways for kids! Here is the schedule of when and where we will be:

  • Tuesday, June 13, 4-7 p.m. at Willowdale Park, 1320 Olive St
  • Wednesday, June 21, 4-7 p.m. at High Dive Park, 500 E Beardsley Ave
  • Thursday, June 29, 4-7 p.m. at Studebaker Park, 1020 McDonald St

We are proud of these new partnerships, and look forward to serving the community through parent empowerment alongside these organizations, as we do with so many other great partners across Elkhart County and beyond!

Positive Parenting is for every parent!

A lot of parents and families around Elkhart County caught the Positive Parenting wave this spring, and we are so thankful to have the opportunity to lift up and empower parents to raise the next generation of our community!

In May, our friends at Hawthorne Early Childhood Learning/Title I Preschool in Elkhart invited us to give the "commencement address" -- a presentation on kindergarten readiness -- at the preschool graduation ceremony. That presentation, given in English and Spanish, reached nearly 200 parents and family members of young children in the Elkhart community!

And the connections continue in June, starting tonight with a presentation on Setting Healthy Screen Time Guidelines for Children at Elkhart Public Library downtown! Scroll down to the list of upcoming events for more registration links and downloadable informational flyers!

Congratulations to Concord graduate Brenna Slaight!

Our CareerWise Elkhart County youth apprentice, Brenna Slaight, is officially graduated from Concord High School!

We are proud to have Brenna as part of the team for Triple P and for Horizon Education Alliance, and we're even prouder to say she will continue to grow and work with us as part of her project manager apprenticeship through the summer and beyond as she starts her studies at Indiana University South Bend!

Thank you for all you do, Brenna, and congratulations!

Join us at Fables for Goshen First Fridays!

We are back at Fables Books in downtown Goshen for the city's First Fridays celebrations every month! From 5 to 7 (or 7:30 depending on how many kids we have with us) on July 7, we will be there for First Fridays making colorful, custom bookmark crafts with kiddos and sharing Triple P information with parents.

We were there on June 2 and we saw one of our favorite Triple P moms, Diana Sanchez Lopez, also known as Creative Face Painting by Diana, with her two children! Thank you to Sara and Sheila for helping the kids decorate their crafts, thank you to all the families and friends who came out to see us, and thank you again to our friends at Fables for welcoming us back each month!

We hope to see you all again in July!
