Maryland parents have taken their case to the Supreme Court to gain their parental rights back. In 2023, Montgomery County schools in Maryland eliminated the option for parents to opt out of sexual curricula being taught to their elementary-age children, in violation of state law and the US Constitution. The lesson plans were full of LGBTQ materials and gender-confusion ideology. Despite early losses in state and federal courts, the coalition of parents has triumphed in persuading the US Supreme Court to consider their case.
Truth in Education is always fighting for parental rights and for the well-being of our children in schools. We have filed an amicus brief (friend of the court) in the case "Mahmoud v. Taylor", which will have oral arguments held on Tuesday, April 22nd. Our President, Rhonda Thomas, will be attending this hearing in support of these beleaguered parents.
This case goes to the heart of the rights of parents and their families. In both Christian and Western history, parents are the primary educators of their children. To them is given the primary authority when it comes to education decisions for their children, and the state or any other institution may not usurp this authority. This case will have far-reaching implications beyond opting out of lesson plans; a successful outcome will have bearing nationwide on other issues of overreach in the schools, such as hiding a gender transition from parents or restricting a parent's ability to care for their children in the way they choose.
