We hope that our students and staff have a fun and safe time with family and friends.

KCKPS Wants You to Join the Upcoming Spring Attendance Campaign

Families play a vital role in student success, and KCKPS appreciates your support in making attendance a priority.


As we kick off our Spring Attendance Campaign (March 24–April 30), we’re celebrating students, staff, and schools that are showing up, improving attendance, and creating a welcoming school environment.


Sign the Attendance Awareness Pledge to show your commitment to daily attendance.


Families who sign up will be entered to win a VIP experience at the Unity in the Community event on April 26.

Reminder: Register Your Child for Kindergarten for 2025-26

Parents and guardians, don't forget that you can now register your child for Kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year.


Your child must be 5-years old by August 31, and your family must live within the school district's boundaries.

The Welcome Center Can Help

Parents and guardians, if you need assistance registering your child for kindergarten, be sure to join us for an in-person registration help session.


The KCKPS Welcome Center will host the upcoming event on Wednesday, April 16, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Central Office, located at 2010 N. 59th St., in KCK.

KCKPS Hosts Dual Language Family Night

Parents eager to give their child the gift of bilingual education participated in an annual event hosted by Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.


On Thursday, March 6, leaders from the Multilingual Language Program held a Dual Language Family Night at J.C. Harmon High School, offering valuable insights to families who are interested in the program.


The session was an opportunity for parents to learn what the Multilingual Language Program is, what the process is for enrollment, and what the benefits are associated with being bilingual.

Wyandotte County parents and guardians are cordially invited to an Empowerment Conference to learn more about your rights as a parent whose child has disabilities.


The conference will take a step-by-step look at the special education process emphasizing parental rights.


The event will take place on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Central Office, located at 2010 N. 59th St. in KCK.


The conference is free, but you must register to attend.

The KCKPS Board of Education invited the community interested in learning more about the budget and finances of the school district.

Local Fraternity to Offer College Readiness Opportunities

The Kansas City Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated invites interested individuals to their informational session regarding its Kappa League Program.


The Kappa League program provides educational college readiness opportunities for young male students.


This program is dedicated to mentoring and developing young men into future leaders through education, personal growth, and community service.


The meeting will take place Saturday, March 22, from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., at 6601 Swope Parkway in Kansas City, MO.

The University of Kansas Medical Center is offering an exciting opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing health-related professions.


A new Teen Community Advisory Board is being formed.


The board will play a vital role in shaping and strengthening KU Medical Center's programs.


Students on the board will contribute to developing these programs through their learning experiences, training, and research.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Next month (April) is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.


According to the Child Advocacy Center, every 11 seconds a child is reported abused or neglected in the United States.


April is a time to raise awareness and focus on preventing child abuse and neglect by encouraging community collaboration and promoting positive parenting and supportive environments. 


Everyone can do their part to help prevent abuse.

Argentine Middle School Students Serve as Pages

at the Kansas State Capitol


Six students from Argentine Middle School had the honor of serving as pages for Kansas Senator Pat Pettey and meeting Governor Laura Kelly.


The group of 8th-grade American History students made the journey to the Kansas State Capitol Building in Topeka, Kansas, on Tuesday, March 11.


Jaxson Ruiz, Luis Diosdado, Daniel Carreon, Mildred Perez, Aaliyah Ceron, and Alexa Torres Lozoya served as pages through the Kansas Legislature program.

Watch: Sumner Academy Students Recognized for

Creating Traveling Exhibit


Four students at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science are receiving the recognition they deserve following the hard work they’ve put in- all in the name of preserving history.


Neveah Williams, Ellie Jones, Canise Frazier, and Mariah Moseby were honored at the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools board meeting on Thursday, February 27, for their collaboration with Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC).


They teamed up with faculty researchers to help create an engaging and educational traveling exhibit showcasing the history and legacy of Sumner High School.

A group of talented students and dedicated faculty from the Integrated Arts Program at Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools proudly showcased their skills at a recent music conference in Wichita, Kansas. 


The large delegation participated in the annual Kansas Music Educators Association Conference (KMEA) from February 27 through March 1.


The KMEA conference serves as a vital platform for professional development and advocacy, promoting the importance of music education in schools and communities.

Her joyful spirit and ability to view challenges as opportunities made her an outstanding candidate.


Her creativity enhances learning; for example, she turned a number-tracing activity into an engaging experience.


Kienzle is also receptive to redirection, transforming routine tasks into enjoyable moments.

She said that Sam's exemplary character makes him a role model for his peers.

Sam effectively communicates his needs and advocates for himself academically, socially, and emotionally.

Oviya Pugazhendhi - Middle School


Oviya is an 8th-grade student at Sumner Academy, and was recognized for her achievements in the Spelling Bee, as nominated by Patricia Bernard, AP.


Oviya distinguished herself by winning first place at the Sumner 8th Grade Spelling Bee and then represented Sumner Academy at the Wyandotte County Spelling Bee, where she placed second.


Beyond her spelling accomplishments, Oviya is an exemplary student with straight A's.


She's known for her respectful demeanor, strong work ethic, and willingness to assist others.

Drivers in Wyandotte County Can Report Potholes

on the Roadway

With warmer days finally here, remnants of the winter months are popping all over the place- specifically potholes.


The Public Works' Street Maintenance Division of the Unified Government/KCK is prepared to fix those pesky potholes to ensure a smooth and safe roadway for you.


The department can be contacted a number of ways, including calling 311.

Dumpster Days are Just Around the Corner for

Wyandotte County Residents

The Public Works' Solid Waste Management team is excited to announce the first Wyandotte County Dumpster Days event of 2025.


Dumpster Days helps residents recycle electronic waste and dispose of unwanted bulky items like old mattresses and furniture for free.


The event will be held on April 4 and 5 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at Indian Springs, 47th & Orville, Kansas City, KS 66102.


Visitors need to show proof of Wyandotte County residency with something displaying their name and address, like a driver’s license or utility bill.

Students in Wyandotte County are Invited to Help

Design the "I Voted" Sticker

The Wyandotte County Election Office has officially launched the 2025 “Future Voter and I Voted” sticker design contest for Wyandotte County middle and high school students.


The office will be accepting online and in-person submissions until Friday, May 9, 2025, at 5PM.


All submissions will be judged for creativity, originality, appropriateness, and demonstration of the theme.


The winning designs will be distributed and worn during this year’s election cycle.
