A Better Way To Recycle

A better way to recycle: There are approximately 5.5 billion bottles sold each year. Of that amount 1.4 are actually recycled. That means 4 billion bottles make their way into our environment or incinerators. As a result, the bottles create fatal consequences to wildlife, harmful to humans and add carbon to our air and increase the warming of our climate. But there is an alternative. The Maryland Bottle Bill, formerly known as the Beverage Container Recycling Refund and Litter Reduction Program will again be before the Maryland Legislature for 2025. The objective of the Bill is straightforward. By incentivizing recycling by giving purchasers a full refund, it is hoped that more people will recycle and reduce the litter in our environment. A bottle refund process is in progress all over the world and in 10 states. The results have been astonishing, increased recycling and reduced litter. The program will be paid by the beverage industry and monitored by the State. It is one of the bills that was supported by Maryland Catholic for Our Common Home.  In the common months, members of the Environmental Justice Committee will be asking for your signatures in support of the bill. It is a win-win measure that will benefit all Marylanders and the beautiful environment that God created.

On The Upcoming Election

Editor's Note: Pretty sure everyone I know has thought it all through. The last thing you need is someone 'counseling' you on how you ought to think about this election. So, the least I can do is to forward you what the Archdiocese has sent out (the second link from OSV News). And I send the one that spoke to me the most in this season of ugly election rhetoric - kinda settles in my heart about it all. That's the first link, "A Christian Voters Guide." I'm also pretty sure this is all you're going to hear from us about it.
