Message from Our Pastor Fr. Aaron Pierre, S.J.
For four years of high school, I walked past a large poster in the main hallway that read: “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I always liked that quote. There is something beautiful about finding work that uses our gifts and gives us joy. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that the second half simply isn’t true. Work is work. Even work we love involves sacrifice, frustration, long days, and sometimes sore feet or tired hands.
Our world often sends another message about work: the “better” your job, the more important you are. Salary, education, titles, and status can easily become measures of a person’s value. Catholic teaching turns that idea upside down. Our work does not give us dignity; our dignity, given to us by God, gives value to our work. St. John Paul II put it simply: work is “for man,” not man “for work.”
Think for a moment about how much work surrounds us that we rarely notice. Someone cleaned the room before we entered it. Someone prepared our food, repaired the roof, poured the concrete, cared for a child, stocked the shelves, or drove the truck. Behind every task is a person – with a family, hopes, worries, fatigue, and sacrifices. Often that work is also an act of love: food on the table, rent paid, children cared for, or help sent to family far away.
This month, I invite us to practice a simple Christian habit: see the worker. Look beyond the uniform, the task, or the job title and notice the person. Offer a word of thanks. Treat them with respect. No honest work makes a person small, because every worker carries a dignity that comes from God.

Father Renzo has a new mission
The Provincial of the Midwest Province of the Jesuits has missioned Fr. Renzo to serve full-time at Casa Romero Renewal Center, a longtime partner of our parishes that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this fall. Fr. Renzo’s talents, passion, and experience will help Casa Romero expand its ministry and offer new programs to people throughout our city.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Fr. Renzo for his dedicated service and generous presence among us during his time as Associate Pastor.
While his new responsibilities mean that we won’t see him quite as often, Fr. Renzo will continue celebrating Sunday Masses with us when his schedule allows.
Please join us in wishing him many blessings in this new mission!🙏
