News from St. Patricia Parish
“And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.” - Matthew 2:9
Dear Parishioners,

Today, the Epiphany of the Lord, is a feast of manifestation (epipháneia), or to put it another way, the showing forth of Emmanuel to the nations represented by the Magi. The beauty of this imaginative narration encourages us to take time for keen listening, silent reflection, and to move beyond the ordinary by giving God our full attention.

As we hear their story, are we mindful of strangers that come to our own place, not in rich robes but usually in the poverty of contemporary seekers and stargazers: the refugees and asylum seekers from any nations, those tired of hypocrisy and disillusioned about political power mongering, the young and not so young who want a star to rise in their lives that is worth following even if the journey may be difficult.

The Christmas Season will soon be over, but the epipháneia of its mystery must draw us first to thanksgiving and then to a lifelong journey towards the vision of a new and reconciled humanity united in Christ.

Thank you for your financial generosity to the Parish and to all those in need during this Christmas season. Thanks even more for sharing your faith and love! May God Bless you and your family all through the New Year!
Sincerely,
Father Mike Meany

EPIPHANY HOUSE BLESSING — If you wish, you can celebrate Epiphany at home with a blessing using the initials of the magi’s traditional names (Casper, Melchior, Balthasar), four crosses, and the new year’s numerals.
Materials: a piece of chalk and a small container of holy water. Gather with family members, friends, and perhaps some neighbors at the front door.

Leader: In the (+) name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. We sign this doorway with four crosses and the numerals of the new year. [20 + C + M + B + 23] Let us pray: May Christ bless this house!
ALL: Amen!
Each room of the house is sprinkled with holy water.
Living Room: Where two or three are gathered in your name, Lord, you are present. Bless this room, O Lord.
ALL: Amen!
Kitchen: Give us this day our daily bread. Bless this room, O Lord.
ALL: Amen!
Dining Room: Prepare us for the heavenly banquet. Bless this room, O Lord.
ALL: Amen!
Bedrooms: Stay with us Lord, when night has come. Bless this room, O Lord.
ALL: Amen!
Bathroom: Cleanse us from all sin. Bless this room, O Lord.
ALL: Amen!
All return to the front door to pray together.
Leader: Let us pray as Jesus taught us:
Our Father . . . The leader sprinkles all present with holy water.
Bless this household through all days to come, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever and ever.
ALL: Amen!
