News from St. Patricia Parish
A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles.
-Luke 6:43-44
Dear Parishioners,

Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, Lent begins!

The priest or deacon rubs the ashes on your forehead and says, “Remember, you are dust and dust you shall return.” The gospel for Ash Wednesday urges us to “Pray, Fast and Give Alms.” All our Lenten disciplines are to be done in secret so as not to draw undue attention to our self for fear we would do them for praise rather than out of sincerity of heart.

What is the ultimate goal of Lent?...
Ash Wednesday - March 2, 2022
Burning of Palms
In preparation for Ash Wednesday on March 2nd, Parishioners are asked to bring in their old palms to be burned. There will be a blue plastic bin in the gathering space of the church. Please return the palms by no later than Sunday, February 27th.

Please remove all rubber bands, staples, and bags before placing the palms in the bin. Thank you!
2022 Annual Catholic Appeal
We at St. Patricia Parish, invite you to spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal materials you have read in the bulletin, E-news, or received in the mail.

The new Annual Catholic Appeal theme, “Making all things new … God’s promise and our responsibility,” is an important theme as we prayerfully consider our support for the Appeal but also important for embracing the life that the Lord wants us to live.

Each pledge makes a difference! All parish communities participate in the campaign and
the gifts of many enable our parishes, schools, and ministries to deliver needed services.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

To make your gift, you can complete the mail-in giving envelope available at church or
make a gift online. Please click the button below for secure online giving.

We welcomed Ms. Mary Iannucilli this week to the halls of St. Patricia School! Ms. Iannucilli will serve as our interim principal for the remainder of the school year.

Ms. Iannucilli is a respected educator who retired as Principal of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School, Orland Hills, in June of 2019 after 11 years. (CJB was named a Blue-Ribbon School two times!) Ms. Iannucilli holds a BA in English Literature from Rosary College and holds two master’s Degrees in School Administration and Counselor Education from Dominican University. Before her time at CJB, Ms. Iannucilli, was an Assistant Superintendent for the Office of Catholic Schools, President/Principal at Seton Academy in South Holland, Principal of Lourdes High School, and began her career at the Chicago Public Schools.

We are incredibly blessed to have her as part of our St. Patricia community! Please give her a warm welcome!

For more information on the status of the efforts principal selection process for next school year, please read Fr. Meany's letter below. Thank you.
Take Out Tuesday - March 1st

Take Out Tuesdays is a fundraising program run by SPS Parent’s Club. On the 1st Tuesday of the month, coinciding with 1:30pm early dismissal, we partner with a local restaurant to earn a percentage of sales to be donated to the school. Restaurant selection is different each month. Take the night off from cooking, enjoy some family time, and support SPS!
Athletics News
On Saturday, February 19, 2022, the St. Patricia Athletics Program recognized Jen Rutledge as the 2021-22 Coach of the Year! Coach Rutledge has played a key role in helping create a successful Girls Volleyball program and her commitment to recruiting and mentoring coaches has been integral to the future of youth sports for our Bobcat athletes.

The award was presented by Rick Kelleher, a long-time St. Patricia Coach who is much loved by the community. Coach Rick began his coaching career the same way countless others have before, he stepped up when no one else volunteered to coach. “At the time, I viewed it as a burden. After a few years, I began to think differently. I had met so many fantastic boys and girls as well as their families that I couldn’t wait for another season to begin! I now know that this experience has been a true gift to me, and I find myself grateful and forever thankful to St. Patricia for asking me back all these years. I’m so happy and proud to have answered that long ago call. I thank God and thank you, St. Patricia!”

The Athletic Program is incredibly proud to be able to honor Coach Rutledge and we are so grateful to Coach Kelleher for his many years of dedication. St. Patricia is blessed to have both these amazing coaches share their time, talent, and love of the game with our student athletes! Thank you!
