News from St. Patricia Parish
“Let the one among you who is without sin, be the first to throw a stone at her.”
-John 8:7
Dear Parishioners,

First of all, it is interesting that the Fifth Sunday of Lent, Gospel, John 11:1-45, corresponds to the Fifth Sunday of Easter, John 14:1-12.

The Lenten gospel is about the Lazarus of Bethany, Martha, and Mary. We learn of Jesus' deep emotional response upon learning of Lazarus’ death. Martha speaks the truth about death. The fate of bodies is the reason not to open the tomb. Jesus comes with a purpose. He comes to show the glory of God, a care stronger than the ravages of death. Jesus comes to free those bound by sin, sickness, and death. Jesus comes not to condemn but to give freedom and peace.

Grief is a wide ride. Yes, people describe its stages and the like; but, they are not in the midst of it. It is love that causes Jesus grief, just as it is the love of Martha and Mary that causes them their grief...
