News from St. Patricia Parish
Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart... and your neighbor as yourself.-Luke 10:27
Dear Parishioners,

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Rev. Daniel M. Tomich, 71 (Ordination class of 1976), who passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Father Tomich served at several parishes with his start at St. Patricia. Father also served at St. Monica, Queen of Apostles and St. Louis de Montfort.

The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on July 1st at St. Denis, his home parish growing up. Cardinal Blase Cupich was the main celebrant. Fr. John Hoffman was the homilist with 20 priest  classmates and friends concelebrating the mass. It was good to see a dozen or so parishioners who took the time to attend the wake and the funeral mass.

I knew Father Tomich in the seminary and again when he was at St. Monica where my uncle was pastor. He had a wonderful and kind personality that called us to celebrate life by keeping in mind the Resurrection won for us in Christ. While he suffered with depression over many years and later in life with back pain and other health concerns, he still expressed concern for others and displayed a peaceful spirit through his soft-spoken words.

His time here at St. Patricia as a newly ordained priest, I have been told, was filled with many communion calls and everyday pastoral work - weddings, funerals, counseling, confessions and school visits, and most importantly the celebration of Mass. He had a way of lifting up the people he met while also challenging parishioners to trust in our loving God. Please pray for all his family and friends. May he rest in peace! Notes of condolence can be sent to: Paul & Mary Beth Tomich at 3637 Quince Court, Downers Grove, IL 60515-1429. Guest Speaker: Fr. Dawit Moroda, Priest of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte, Ethiopia

WE WELCOME Fr. Moroda to St. Patricia Church! Fr. Moroda arrived in New York in 2016 where he learned the language and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from St. John’s University. As a missionary priest, he gives witness and shares his experiences about the many challenges the Church is facing in proclaiming the good news in the most vulnerable areas of the world. He is currently serving as a Chaplain for nursing homes and a hospital at Far Rockaway, New York.

About Fr. Moroda’s Diocese: The Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte is one of 13 dioceses in Ethiopia. The Vicariate provides pastoral and social services in the western part of Ethiopia. People are mainly small-scale farmers whose livelihood totally depends on the rain-fed agriculture and animal products. Besides evangelization, spiritual assistance and family counseling, the church renders educational services for poor children, literacy programs for adults, mother and child support, old age assistance, drinking water facility, construction of houses for the poor and others.

Fr. Moroda’s Message: The word of Jesus is at the center of our   services. Therefore, at this critical time, we invite all the people of good heart to support us with your prayers and by showing solidarity. Jesus says, “Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it for me.” (Mat 25:40) THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
