This solemnity celebrates the reign of Jesus Christ over heaven and earth. The Scriptures have images of great power. The prophet Daniel assures the people that those who hold power and commit evil will be defeated by God's power. The psalm is a song of praise to God our King: a king whose power is beyond the material world. The reading from Revelation presents Jesus as the Son of Man coming to destroy sin. God's power is now active in Jesus and extends from the beginning to the end. In the Gospel, we hear Pilate questioning Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus' power is not like the kind of power we humans imagine. It comes out of the "weakness" of the cross. It is the power of love and goodness. (Liturgy of the Word, pg. 52)

Diocesan Heating Assistance Program
The DHAP provides emergency heating assistance; up to $300 per household; to anyone in need residing within the nine counties of the Diocese of Kalamazoo (Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St Joseph, and Van Buren counties). The program helps households defray heating expenses and obtain heating resources (fuel oil, natural gas, electricity, firewood, etc).
In 2020, the DHAP served 200 households across the Diocese, impacting almost 600 individuals and keeping them warm through a record-breaking cold winter. The Heating Assistance Program is generously funded through a special collection taken in November -- with funds contributed from more than 50 parishes and missions across the Diocese of Kalamazoo. This year's collection will be on THIS WEEKEND. There are envelopes in the carousel, in the Gathering Space.
