Week of February 1

Let’s tackle hunger in Lake County

The big game is coming up! Do you know what you will prepare for snacks? Trouble is, one in ten people here in Lake Country do not have that luxury, as they are food insecure. This Sunday, the Board of Deacons is collecting money for Souper Bowl Sunday, with all of the donations going directly to support organizations that deal with food insecurity such as Holy Family Soup Kitchen in Waukegan, local food banks, and the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Please click the blue button to donate. Or, if you are in worship on Sunday, listen for the banging pots as you leave and drop in what you can. Many of your neighbors will appreciate it.

Worship with us on Sunday, February 1 at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary or Chapel

Rev. Amy Heinrich is preaching in the sanctuary and Rev. Dr. Brian R. Paulson is preaching in the chapel. The services will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

In Memoriam and Gratitude

Thank you to Nancy Bennet for her generous donation in support of our youth trips. Nancy's donation was made in memory of her son, Patrick Bennett, who passed away last July at the age of 30. Patrick, a 2013 LHS graduate, was confirmed here at First Pres and was an active participant in our youth ministry. The photo to the left was taken on an SHF Mission Trip to Maine in 2010.

Lent Devotion Writers: This Lent, we invite you to lend your voice to our church’s annual devotional series. Our theme, Hymns of Lent and Easter, will explore the prayers we sing—songs of lament, hope, repentance, and resurrection that have carried our faith through generations. Whether a hymn has shaped your spirituality, sustained you through a hard season, or opened your heart to new joy, your reflection matters. Writers of all ages and experience levels are welcome. Email Alex to sign up and help our congregation journey toward Easter, one hymn at a time!

"Sermon on the Mount" Book Study begins Monday, Feb. 23

This Lent, go deeper into the surprising blessings of the Beatitudes with a book study on Jesus’ Alternative Plan: The Sermon on the Mount by Fr. Richard Rohr. You’re invited to read along, but advance reading is not required to participate. Each week, Rev. Nicole Chapman-Farley will offer brief chapter summaries and guide the group into thoughtful conversation around the book’s themes and emphases.

Class meets Mondays in Lent:

2:00 PM — in person, Dougherty Room

6:00 PM — on Zoom

RSVP by Thursday, February 19 to receive all the details, including weekly reading selections and Zoom information.

Ash Wednesday Service

Join us in the sanctuary on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:00 PM for Ash Wednesday worship, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. Rev. Amy Heinrich will preach “From Ashes, We Rise Together” and the service will conclude with the imposition of ashes.
