Guest Preacher on January 18: We're excited to welcome Rev. Dr. William Yoo, Associate Professor of American Religious and Cultural History at Columbia Theological Seminary, as our guest preacher on Sunday, January 18 in the sanctuary.
Dr. Yoo has published books on African American Christianity, Asian American Christianity, Presbyterian history, and the histories of Indigenous rights activism and abolitionism in the United States. His book, What Kind of Christianity: A History of Slavery and Anti-Black Racism in the Presbyterian Church, received the 2023 Award of Excellence from the Religion Communicators Council.
His most recent book is Reckoning with History: Settler Colonialism, Slavery, and the Making of American Christianity. He is a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and a member of Cherokee Presbytery.
| MLK Day Learning Event with Dr. Yoo: After worship on January 18, come to Social Hall for cake and coffee, hosted by the Committee on Anti-Racism & Equity (CARE), then head downstairs to Fellowship Hall for an MLK Day learning event with our guest preacher. Highlighting the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Yoo will speak about how the history of faith and politics can inform how churches today may work toward making a real difference in ending poverty and racism. We hope you’ll stay, listen, and join the Q&A as we learn together. | | |

Sunday School Update
Beginning this Sunday, January 11, we’ll be making a small adjustment to how Sunday School grades are grouped.
As we’ve learned more about our participation and volunteer availability this year, it’s become clear that our fall setup assumed a slightly larger volunteer pool than we currently have. Rather than navigating last-minute changes week to week, we’re moving to a structure that is steadier, more predictable, and better supported for everyone involved.
The adjusted age groupings are Age 3 – Grade 1, Grades 2–4, and Grades 5-8.
We’re confident this adjustment will create a strong, consistent experience for both our kids and our volunteers. More information is available in the Family Newsletter that went out this week.

Youth Group Update
Starting this Sunday, January 11, we’ll be gathering weekly for Youth Group (grades 6–12) from 4:00–5:30 PM. Our focus is simple but important: showing up for one another through connection and play. We’d love to see your kid(s) there and hope this month offers an easy on-ramp back into community.

There's still time to join in on Tuesday Night Adult Ed
"Apocalypse Now? A Biblical Guide to the End Times"
Tuesdays: January 6, 13, 20 & 27
7:00-8:15 PM in Fellowship Hall
Facilitator: Alex Barnes (& special guests)
Are we living in “the end times”—or just surrounded by headlines that want us to think so? Join us for a lively, faith-filled exploration of what the Bible actually says about the end of the world…and what it absolutely doesn’t.
Together we’ll dig into the history of apocalyptic movements, unpack how movies and pop culture have shaped our imaginations, and rediscover the surprising theme at the heart of biblical apocalypse: hope.
Come with your questions, your curiosity, and maybe a friend who’s been doomscrolling a little too much lately. You’ll leave with grounded theology, practical insight, and a renewed sense of God’s presence in uncertain times.
