From the Deacons

Dear Friends in Christ,

This week we hold in our hearts and pray for the victims of the flooding in Texas, their families, friends, and all who keep vigil and mourn.

The immense number of missing and dead, including young children and summer campers, is devastating. At times, like us, you may feel paralyzed or overwhelmed by despair. The Rev. Lizzie McManus-Dail, an Episcopal priest in Texas wrote this week, “…I believe in a God who listens to our prayers. And if you feel helpless, I beg you to pray for the grieving and the dead. It is not useless or dumb or trite or a pass to pray. It is lifting your soul up to its natural bent towards crying out with all those whose souls are breaking.”

And so, we pray, joining our voices with all who grieve:

God of this moment,

When the water has taken too much and the silence feels heavy, be near.

For those who are grieving, bring steady breath.

For those still searching, bring strength that holds.

For all of us, bring the kind of courage that stays when answers do not come.

Help us face what is here and what is still unknown.

Be in the waiting.

Be in the heartbreak.

Be in the hands that hold each other now.

We need you.

Peace be with you,
