News from St. Patricia Parish
"The wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever." -Daniel 12:3
Dear Parishioners,

Veterans Day asks us to pause to remember all those who served our country in wars long ago and today. Of course, we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives for our freedom. Many still have the wounds of their service, physically and/or psychologically. Now, more than ever, we are aware of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which lasts for many years even with support from family and professionals.

How can we support them? Being a good friend and neighbor can go a long way. Kindness and compassion can help heal the wounded soul.

Furthermore, we all need to remind ourselves that what we say matters. Conflicts big and small many times stem from the fact that it is easier to scapegoat than to find common ground. Now, as in the past, we hear about crude and divisive rhetoric from a person that should know better. Anti-Semitic comments, enflaming racial prejudice or any kind of discrimination is just plain evil. We all know better, and there are no excuses....

St. Patricia Religious Education Good News
This week, our Tremendous Third Graders are discussing how they each make up our faith community. Their teacher, Mrs. Jennifer L. had each student in her class trace one of their hands. Then they decorated their paper hands with things that represent who they are. Their hands showed how they are all individuals who like different things (nature, animals, etc) and have different talents and abilities, yet these same hands can all come together to honor, thank, and praise God. They talked about how each of us, different though we are, can show God that we love Him by actively participating in our parish through service, prayer, and by sharing our time and talents with our faith community. That’s awesome, Third Grade!

Thank you for your continued support! May God bless you and your family!
In Christ,
Christine Ramos, RE Director

Alpha
Alpha is a program designed particularly for people who would not describe themselves as Christians or churchgoers. It is a series of 15 interactive sessions, typically completed in 11 weeks, including a weekend away, where anyone can explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. Everyone is welcome! There is no charge to attend Alpha – it is free! After a small meal and time spent getting to know one another, a short talk and group discussion will follow. We are looking for volunteers to be part of this wonderful team to serve as Hosts or Helpers. We will have training sessions twice a year. Please view the video below for an overview of the program.

Please contact Missy Keegan (708) 598-5222, mkeegan@stpatriciaparish.com if you have any questions, want to participate in Alpha (or know someone who would like to), or want to be a volunteer as an Alpha Host or Helper.
