COVID-19 Update
August 25, 2021

Dear Parishioners,

Protecting the health and safety of our program participants, parish staff, and volunteers, while providing them with an excellent, in-person faith formation experience, remains our priority.

Faithful citizenship is key. We expect our families to take personal responsibility for the common good and their own safety. Taking every precaution to reduce the spread of the virus is an act of charity toward our sisters and brothers in Christ, particularly those too young to receive vaccine protection.

As Pope Francis has said, “I believe that morally everyone must take the vaccine. It is the moral choice because it is about your life, but also the lives of others.”

The Archdiocese of Chicago has now required all to wear a mask for entry into all Archdiocesan Parish facilities and all Archdiocesan Employees are to be vaccinated or show proof of being COVID-19 free per weekly test. Employees can submit a request for a waiver due to medical reasons, which will be reviewed and approved by the COVID-19 Task Force.

Please pray for all nurses, doctors, and first responders as we face this ever-changing situation. We are most appreciative of their heroic dedication over the past year and a half and ask God to keep them safe and healthy.

I am aware of the stress that many of you are experiencing as we continue to deal with this health crisis. I ask everyone to be patient and charitable in their conversations and conduct.

God bless you and be safe!

St. Patricia School News
We are so excited to kick off the 2021-22 school year at St. Patricia! Our hallways are full again with the sounds of students; singing in Music, speaking in Spanish, praying at the start and end of each day, and engaging with their Teachers as active learners in the classroom. Ms. Veronica Skelton Cash, our new principal, shared that, "this year's theme for the school will be “Strength for the Journey.” In his letter to the Philippians, St. Paul reminds us that we can “do all things through God who strengthens us.” We know that God provides us with endurance and faith to overcome any challenge. In the coming year, we will reflect together on how God’s ever-present strength provides inspiration and support as we live out His ministry to Catholic education."

St. Patricia Religious Education News
Registration for our Full Year Religious Education Program is now underway!
Looking ahead, we pray our world will be healed and our lives will be more back to “normal” when we return in September for our new RE year. We can’t wait until we are all reunited in person at our church and our school! It will be a day of great celebration! Be sure to sign up and share the registration form with other families you may know, so we may keep the Catholic faith and the love of God alive and flourishing in our community!

When is Registration due? When do classes begin?
We ask that all Registration forms be turned in by September 16, 2021. The first day of classes is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

What grades are offered for the Full Year RE Program?
We offer RE classes for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

What are the requirements for children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation?
Children must be baptized. The Archdiocese usually requires the children to take part in a two year preparation program for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. For 2021-22 the Archdiocese of Chicago has announced the two-year requirement to receive Sacraments will be waived this year for all incoming 2nd and 8th Graders who were unable to attend Religious Education last year. These students will participate in a very short catch-up program, in addition to this year’s classes, so they will be able to receive the Sacrament(s) appropriate to their grade level this school year.

Do you offer any classes for Teens who are in need of receiving Sacraments?
Yes, they may register for our Teen RCIA Program. It is a one year program which runs from September through March. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Do you offer any program for Adults who are in need of receiving Sacraments?
Yes, they may register for our Adult RCIA Program. It is a one year program which runs from October through March or April. Classes will be held on Monday evenings.

Where are the registration forms located?
You can find our registration form on our website, in the church gathering space, or at the rectory. You can also request a registration form by email at or call our office at 708-599-1221.

Liturgical Minister Training for Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is the formal title of laypeople who distribute the Eucharist during Mass. This training provides all those wishing to serve in this ministry sufficient spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence.

All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine. This training is open to adults and teens who have received their confirmation.
