News from St. Patricia Parish
"Give the Lord Glory and Honor"
Dear Parishioners,

In order to move forward in the “Renew My Church” Initiative, we have to keep in mind The Call to Holiness is for all the baptized. A brief review follows:

The Call to HolinessNEW TESTAMENT
There is more in a human life than biological, psychological, or even sociological frames of references. These modern perspectives are helpful, yet they do not reveal enough. They tend to fit life into a certain frame of reference which can dull or limit it. This perspective can become the view that the lay leader adopts and consequentially passes on to their individual ministries. The Second Vatican Council responded to these perspectives by seeking to renew the call to holiness rooted in the discipleship of Christ Jesus. “By this holiness, a more human way of life is promoted even in this earthly society.”i / The theology, which will illuminate the situation, will first focus on the foundation of the call to holiness and discipleship, as found in the New Testament....

Leadership Night Message from Fr. Meany:
I plan to gather all the Parish Leadership together on Wednesday, September 29th at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate our accomplishments and review some of the goals for the year. The “Renew My Church” Document will be reviewed and discussed. The meeting will take place in the School Hall and dinner will be served. And yes, all interested parishioners are welcome to attend. Please register to attend.

The evening will permit me to become acquainted with all of you and understand how best we can begin to implement the RMC goals and objectives. Remember, these first steps will take time to become an integral part of the parish culture.  I am sure you have heard the wise saying: “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” With this being said, we have to start somewhere and be patient as we move through the ups and downs, which is part of any major endeavor.
Remember the Past, Celebrate the Present, Grow the Future...

Welcome to the New Year of RE at St. Patricia Parish

Happy New RE Year! It’s wonderful to see our program growing and thriving. A warm welcome to our new and returning RE families. This past Tuesday, we began the year by gathering together for our opening Family Mass. In prayer and thanksgiving, our students, teachers, parents, and volunteers, along with Fr. Mike and Fr. Chris, celebrated the beginning of our continuing journey in the Catholic faith. It was beautiful praying together as a community once again. As Fr. Mike and Fr. Chris blessed each class, the teachers, and the parents with a special blessing, I know there were many joyful smiles underneath those masks!

Last weekend for Catechetical Sunday, Fr. Mike blessed and commissioned the Catechists of our parish who teach for St. Patricia School, RE, Teen RCIA, Adult RCIA, SPRED, SIRE, CLOW, and Vacation Bible School. We would like to thank our Catechists for all they do, as they bring the teachings of our Catholic faith to those who seek God in their lives.

Thank you for your continued support! May God bless you and your family!
In Christ,
Christine Ramos, RE Director
Registration for RE is still available. If you have not registered yet, register soon! Please call the Religious Education Office at 708-599-1221 for more information.  Classes will begin on Monday, October 4th. We look forward to beginning this spiritual journey with you!
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

We are so excited to announce that CLOW, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, will resume on Sunday, October 3rd at the 9:30 am Mass!  During the Mass, the priest will invite the children, ages 4 and up, to go with a catechist to the church gathering space to learn about the readings of the day through fun activities and lively discussion. For their participation in this sacred time together, each child will receive a small gift to take home to remind them of God’s Word alive in their hearts!

Health and Safety Updates
The Archdiocese of Chicago encourages everyone to get a seasonal flu vaccine to protect their own health and avoid placing a further burden on our health care system and providers already overwhelmed caring for COVID-19 patients. COVID-19 and the flu require separate vaccines. One does not protect you from the other, nor does one interfere with the other. It is safe to receive both vaccines and in some cases, your health care provider or local pharmacy can provide both in one visit.

"The Catholic Church has been a consistent voice in defense of human life and that must continue in this moment. Everyone at the Archdiocese of Chicago, from pastors to administrators, teachers, principals, and custodial staff, has been working hard during the pandemic to ensure that our churches and schools operate safely. We must go that extra step now. Ideally, everyone should be vaccinated for the flu by the end of October." excerpt from Cardinal Cupich's letter.
