A message from The Election Committee
for the 12th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield

Nominations and Applications
Nominations and applications closed on June 30, 2021. The online process and technology worked as planned, we have nominees who submitted completed applications, and Oxford Document Management Company contacted the potential nominees and began the background check process on July 1. The plan is to not make public either the number of nominees or their names until after the background and reference check phase has been completed. This is to protect the identities of the nominees while they are continuing their discernment and to maintain the integrity of the Election Process. At this point, it would not benefit anyone to have people discussing, contacting, or researching the potential nominees.
Next Steps
You may be wondering what you can do before the nominees are revealed? Please continue praying.
On December 13, 2019, the Standing Committee invited the Faithful of the Diocese of Springfield to pray during the season of transition between Bishop Martins’ retirement announcement and the ordination of the 12th Bishop of Springfield. Suggested prayers for use in corporate worship and private devotions here.
Again, on December 14, 2020, The Bishop Election Committee and Standing Committee requested your continuing prayers as the Diocese discerned our way forward towards the election and consecration of the XII Bishop of Springfield. Prayers of the People in each Form were adapted and provided. It was hoped the provided forms would become an integral part of every church’s worship. The forms may be found here.

Finally, during this phase before the names of the nominees are revealed, the Faithful of the Diocese are encouraged to “read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” the Profile created based on your input and released on June 4, 2021. It may be viewed or printed here.
