THE PILLARS OF LENT As we begin our Lenten journey, reflect on how your prayers, fasting and almsgiving can guide you. As Pope Francis explains, these are “elements which, when lived sincerely, can transform life and provide a sure foundation for dignity and fraternity.” How can practicing the Lenten pillars transform your life and the lives of our sisters and brothers around the world? Visit crsricebowl.org to learn more.

Lent 2022 starts on Ash Wednesday, March 2, and lasts until the beginning of the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, followed by the Triduum and Easter. Lent is a time to renew our faith. What will you do this Lent to grow closer to Jesus?

Please visit the Seattle Archdiocese’s Lent webpage for weekly reflections from the archbishop, fasting guidelines, inspiration, resources and more.
For those not able to join us in person for Mass, please use the following prayer that will be prayed after Communion.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in this Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
NEWS FROM PARISH STAFF
Dear Parishioners of Saint Vincent de Paul,

At 3 AM, the morning of March 8, the Vatican published in their daily bulletin that the Holy Father has appointed me Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Seattle. My heart overflows with gratitude to Almighty God, to Pope Francis for his faith in me and to Archbishop Etienne for his trust.

In case you are curious of how it happened, I received the phone call from the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Christophe Pierre on Saturday evening, February 26th, informing me of Pope Francis’ decision. After picking my jaw up from the floor and offering a prayer of gratitude to Jesus on my knees, I started pacing around my room in profound wonder to say the least. My next call was with Archbishop Etienne. I am grateful for how kind he was to me in that phone call and for his words of wisdom as I processed all this with him. I sincerely look forward to serving him as his auxiliary bishop alongside Bishop Elizondo. I will be ordained a bishop at St. James Cathedral on Tuesday May 3rd, time yet to be determined. I am hopeful you can share this day with me in person or online if you wish.

You no doubt have questions of what that means for us here at Saint Vincent de Paul. I want to put your mind at ease by sharing with you that it is Archbishop Etienne’s intention to keep me here at St. Vincent de Paul as the pastor. We will be working with the chancery in the coming weeks to explore additional staffing. We are of course going to need to be flexible and open the Holy Spirit throughout this transition.

I thank God for having been assigned to such an amazing parish. I ask that you please pray for me as I make this transition in my life from priest to bishop. You are in my prayers as well. With Jesus, all things are possible. In everything, we put our faith and trust in him! I look forward to seeing you at Mass!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Bishop Elect Frank R. Schuster
Pastor
