I have been a staff member of St. Vincent's for 9 years now - that's almost a decade! In reflecting about my years here and everything I have seen both in the office and in our parish community, one word comes to mind - GENEROISTY. For such a big word, it's definition is quite simple: the trait of being willing to give your money or time.
Each day as I go about my work I see generosity. Generosity in money is an obvious one, we see it when the basket gets passed around at Mass, checks that come in the mail and our online giving. Each week when we make the deposits I am humbled by this kind of giving. I also see great generosity when a parishioner who hears of the shortfall in the Annual Catholic Appeal feels called to make up the difference, in people who give to the tithing fund to help those who need a little assistance, in retired parishioners who didn't need the Covid Stimulus checks and offered it up to those in need, and in bequests that are left to the church. This type of generosity is beautiful and fills my heart with joy.
The generosity of giving of one's time is just as beautiful. Did you know each Mass needs about 15 volunteers, including ushers, altar servers, Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, MC's; each weekend we depend on 60 volunteers. If you include Holy Days, we are looking at over 3,000 volunteers needed just for Mass. We have over 35 people on our Parish Council and Committees and I can't even count how many volunteers we have for programs and Religious Ed (OK, I can count them but I'm not going to). These are examples of just some of the volunteers here in the church. I also see our parishioners volunteering in our community, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Hospitality House, FW Day Center, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts - the list goes on and on. Once again, I am humbled by the generosity of our Faith Community.
Thank you, St. Vincent Family, for showing me each and every day what true generosity is. I can't wait to see what tomorrow's generosity looks like.

Bible Study Returns! Our study begins August 17th, with two sessions on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM in the S. Narthex. We will begin a four-week study of the first letter of St. John to his community. Not the Gospel of John, but the first of his three letters will be the focus of our reflection. Light, love, and the truth are his principle themes. For more information or to register, please contact the parish office at 253-839-2320 or jsimpson@stvincentparish.org.

ARE YOU, or someone you know, INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith. This is for adults who are seeking baptism in the Catholic Church or full communion with the Catholic tradition. It is a process which employs study of the Gospels, Catholic teaching, and Christian values. We also focus on the development and deepening of a life of prayer and involvement in the parish community. You can learn more by contacting John Simpson, 253-839-2320, ext. 209 or jsimpson@stvincentparish.org.

Prepares Update:
Our Saint Vincent de Paul Parish PREPARES group has a lot of gratitude to share! We want to first thank our parishioners for your support since our launch in February. We received so many clothing donations that we spent weeks sorting and organizing so that we can swiftly serve our requests for assistance. (See list below to learn about items we need now.)
We are incredibly grateful to the Knights of Columbus, Saint Joseph Council # 7528 for their donation of $500, for our parish PREPARES efforts. Thank you so much!
Thanks also to the South King Firefighters Foundation for their donation of a car seat for one of our needy families.
Gratitude to Jerry and Trese Graddon, who have donated several clear plastic bins for clothing storage.
Would you and your family like to help? We are now accepting donations! We are low on girls or neutral newborn, 0-3 and 3 month clothes and sleepers, as well as 9-12 month, and girls 12-18 month clothes. We also need socks for all ages up to age 5. Please know that when we get a request for baby clothes we want to provide a minimum of a weeks’ worth of clothing changes – enough to get mom and dad to wash day!
PREPARES accepts new or GENTLY USED, stain free clothes, preferably freshly laundered.
