What do you hunger for most in your life? Part 2
This weeks question was "What do you go to work for?" I will give you a hint, it's food - but not chocolate! To listen to Fr. Frank's full homily from last Sunday visit his webpage.

It is hard to go back to Church, especially if you are my 10-year-old son Vincent. It was Sunday morning and I told him to get ready for Church. “Are we going again” he asked? I explained to him that yes, we were going again, before Covid we went to mass every Sunday. He informed me emphatically that NO we did not go to mass every Sunday before Covid. I respond, “Yes we did. Put your shoes on. We are going.”
The Church is open. We want you to come to mass, and I don’t mean watch it, we want you to come and celebrate in person. You might be like Vincent and it's hard to come to mass. Let’s be honest watching mass in our pjs and drinking coffee is easy, some days I want to do that as well. Ryan, my husband, and I had some really honest conversations about coming back to mass. We had gotten out of the habit and it was easier to plan the weekend without mass then plan the weekend around mass. We love Jesus and his Church, we want our kids to love Jesus and his Church. If we want that for them, we need to take them to Church. So we are back to the Sunday morning routine of waking up, getting dressed, piling in the car and coming to Church. With five kids it is guaranteed that one will be mad about coming to Church. Most Sundays it is worth it.
I want to encourage all of you to come back to mass. Our Church needs you. We need you at mass. I have always said that our Church is beautiful because of you, you add the spark, the vibrancy, and when you are not here we miss it, we miss you. Make the commitment, come back. Let nothing stand in the way of that sacred hour you have with Jesus, nothing is sweeter or better. Don’t believe me, come back to Church for six weeks and see how God works in your life.
Believe me I know the challenge of coming to Church as a family. No matter how challenging we as parents have a responsibility to bring them to mass. If you need a good laugh read the chapter on taking kids to Church in Jim Gaffigan’s book, “Dad is Fat.”
If you can’t come because of illness or because you or a family member are immune compromised we understand and more importantly God understands. We will continue to live stream our 11:00 am mass for you. God knows your heart and your desire to be in his house. Come when it is safe.

Bible Study Returns! Our study begins August 17th, with two sessions on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM in the S. Narthex. We will begin a four-week study of the first letter of St. John to his community. Not the Gospel of John, but the first of his three letters will be the focus of our reflection. Light, love, and the truth are his principle themes. For more information or to register, please contact the parish office at 253-839-2320 or jsimpson@stvincentparish.org.

Baptism of young children at
St. Vincent parish
We celebrate baptisms of young children (0-6 years) five times each year at one of our weekend Masses. Parents/guardians are asked to participate in Baptism Preparation Classes to update their understanding of baptism, the important responsibilities of Christian parenting, and to learn more about the many ways our parish supports families. To schedule an initial interview and reserve a date for your child's baptism, or for more information, please contact John Simpson at jsimpson@stvincentparish.org or through the parish office at 253-839-2320.
Commonly Asked Questions:
Are there any requirements in order to have my child baptized at St. Vincent? Parents/Guardians are required to be a baptized Catholic and a registered parishioner for more than six months.
Who can be a godparent? Church law requires that there must be at least one qualified godparent for the child baptized. Godparents need to be active, practicing and confirmed Catholics at least 16 years in age. Godparents need to submit written proof of registration from their parish.
Can a non-Catholic be a godparent? No, only a Catholic can be a godparent because they are asked to promise to help support raising the child in the Catholic faith.
What if the godparents can't come to the actual celebration? You can have a proxy stand in for the godparent(s) if they live in another area, state or, are otherwise unavailable.
Can I schedule a private baptism? No, unless there is an exceptional circumstance. Baptism celebrates the initiation of the child into the parish community and it is very important that the community is present at the time of the celebration.
