PREPARES in our parish is off to a strong start, thanks to generous donations of diapers and clothing from Saint Vincent de Paul parishioners.
We served our first referral in February. A family of five in need of diapers, pull-ups and wipes for their new baby, and a toddler. We also referred them to agencies that help with rent and utilities assistance. When we delivered the items, the parents explained that they had been doing well, until the pandemic impacted their jobs. The husband had contracted COVID at some point in 2020, and his job required a number of negative tests before he could return to work. Mom wasn’t working due to having the baby this year. They fell behind on rent and energy bills.
A few weeks later, we called to check on their progress. Mom and dad are both back to work, and they declined an offer of diapers, saying their needs were met!
Catholic Community Services was able to set us up with a supply of diapers and clothes, and we’ve been busy sorting the sizes – but we don’t have enough plastic bins to store them.
PREPARES also extends a huge THANK YOU to Ted Colby with the State Farm Insurance Agency in Federal Way! His incredible, annual diaper drive was his most successful yet and he is asking us to take some size 1 & 2 diapers of his hands! We are so grateful for this unexpected support!
Gratefully,
