Message from your Parish Staff

What do you have planned for retirement? That’s a question I am asked often these past several weeks, and I have some ready answers. The harder question is, “What will you miss most about work?” I shared a few weeks ago about how I will miss our parishioners – our volunteers, our daily Mass goers, those that drop by the office, those I don’t know, but see most Sundays at Mass where we smile and nod or say “Hello”. I’ll miss the school and seeing the kids and hearing the laughter from the playground. I’ll miss the events and programs that bring our parishioners together.
But what will I miss most? You sometimes hear, my co-workers are like family. That’s true here – but it’s a family where each member is a professional, is dedicated, is highly skilled, is talented and is faithful. It’s a family that laughs a lot together, that has years of shared stories and references that, when spoken into a sad or scary or frustrating situation, makes everything okay. It’s a family that, when you walk in the door in the morning, you will be greeted with a smile that is genuine. It’s a family that, when you are struggling, is there asking, “How can I help?”
As I mentioned previously, most people don’t know what goes on behind the scenes in the parish office. Please know that this parish is blessed with a staff made up of extraordinary individuals who love their work and this church, and work so hard for little pay to bring Christ to our people, to make Him come alive so all will know that He is here with us. I know He is – I see Him every day in the parish office. Thank you to all my co-workers who have made the last ten years the best work experience I have had in my life. You are what I will miss most about my work.
-Tracey Rockwell P.A.A.

Is God calling you to take the next step of faith? Are you interested in becoming Catholic? If you are an adult who has never been baptized or, an adult who has been baptized in another Christian tradition, and would like to explore the next step, then consider yourself invited to participate in the RCIA, a process of initiation into the Catholic Church. You can learn more by contacting John Simpson,253-839-2320, ext. 209 or jsimpson@stvincentparish.org.

Do you have a child seeking baptism?
The RCIA Adapted for Children is a process by which children over the age of 7 who are either unbaptized or uncatechized learn about and are formed in the Catholic faith, heading toward the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. (Whichever ones they haven’t received yet.)
Class will begin in September!

Baptism of young children at
St. Vincent parish
We celebrate baptisms of young children (0-6 years) five times each year at one of our weekend Masses. Parents/guardians are asked to participate in Baptism Preparation Classes to update their understanding of baptism, the important responsibilities of Christian parenting, and to learn more about the many ways our parish supports families. To schedule an initial interview and reserve a date for your child's baptism, or for more information, please contact John Simpson at jsimpson@stvincentparish.org or through the parish office at 253-839-2320.
Commonly Asked Questions:
Are there any requirements in order to have my child baptized at St. Vincent? Parents/Guardians are required to be a baptized Catholic and a registered parishioner for more than six months.
Who can be a godparent? Church law requires that there must be at least one qualified godparent for the child baptized. Godparents need to be active, practicing and confirmed Catholics at least 16 years in age. Godparents need to submit written proof of registration from their parish.
Can a non-Catholic be a godparent? No, only a Catholic can be a godparent because they are asked to promise to help support raising the child in the Catholic faith.
What if the godparents can't come to the actual celebration? You can have a proxy stand in for the godparent(s) if they live in another area, state or, are otherwise unavailable.
Can I schedule a private baptism? No, unless there is an exceptional circumstance. Baptism celebrates the initiation of the child into the parish community and it is very important that the community is present at the time of the celebration.
