Our Lady of Guadalupe & St. Patrick's Parishes

Spreading the Gospel on the South Side of Milwaukee

May 2026

Message from Our Pastor Fr. Aaron Pierre, S.J.

During the month of May, our parish life is full of beautiful sacramental moments. We celebrate young people receiving Confirmation, children receiving their First Communion, and adults being confirmed in the faith. Last Sunday, we also had the joy of celebrating a marriage validation during the 10:30am Mass at St. Patrick’s, surrounded by the prayer and love of the community. It was a beautiful reminder that the sacraments are never just private moments. They belong to the whole Church.

Sometimes we can think of the sacraments as things to “get done”: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage. They can start to feel like boxes to check off in our busy lives. While it’s true that the sacraments mark real moments of grace, they are not finish lines.

The sacraments are not something to accomplish. They are meant to be lived.

In every sacrament, Christ comes close to us. He meets us in the concrete moments of our lives in childhood and adulthood, in commitment and weakness, in joy and sorrow, in sin and mercy. Through the sacraments, God’s grace does not remain abstract or far away. It enters our lives and begins to transform us from within.

That is why every sacrament opens a door. Baptism opens the door to new life in Christ. Confirmation opens the door to mission strengthened by the Holy Spirit to serve God’s people in the Church and in the world. Marriage opens the door to a daily vocation of faithful, generous love. And the Eucharist, which we receive again and again, keeps that door open, forming us into the Body of Christ for others. Confession and the Anointing of the Sick also open doors: one reminding us that God’s mercy is stronger than our sin, the other that Christ draws near to us especially in weakness.

This month, as we celebrate so many sacramental moments, let us remember who we are. We are not simply people who receive sacraments from time to time. We are a sacramental people: a community continually being formed, healed, strengthened, and sent by the grace of God.

We invite you to witness the Sacraments of Initiation!

Our parish community is alive and growing!

This Lent, a little over 80 parishioners took part in 8 small groups for "The Search", 7 week adult faith formation series.

Through video, reflection, and honest conversation, participants built community and deepened their faith.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

We look forward to offering another adult faith formation opportunity this summer coming in July!

St. Patrick’s Kitchen Renovation

We sincerely thank Mr. Rock Romero for generously giving his time and talent to help renovate our parish kitchen. Thanks to his efforts, we now have a renewed space to continue sharing and serving as a community. This transformation reminds us how much we can accomplish when we offer our gifts in service to others.

We invite our entire parish community to follow this example by offering your time, talents, and heart to help strengthen our church. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference.

Thank you, Mr. Romero, for inspiring us to serve with joy!
