Message from Our Pastor Fr. Aaron Pierre, S.J.
The start of a new year invites us to reflect on the past and look ahead with hope. As I reminisce about the challenges of 2024, I wonder: what hardships did you face? Perhaps you said goodbye to a loved one, experienced a disappointment in your job, saw a cherished dream fade, or received a life-changing diagnosis that changed your future plans. Each of these moments may feel like a closed door, leaving you wondering what comes next.
“When one door closes, another door opens.” This saying gains profound meaning as Pope Francis inaugurated the Year of Jubilee 2025 by opening the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica. Symbolizing Christ as the way to salvation (John 10:9), this door reminds us that every transition, every closed door, leads to God’s invitation to step forward into new opportunities filled with grace.
The Jubilee theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” sets our course for the year. Like pilgrims, we journey with gratitude for past blessings and trust that God is preparing new doors of grace and possibility, even when the path is unclear. This trust sustains us as we carry both the joys and pains of the past year into this new beginning. The Jubilee Door does more than mark a symbolic beginning; it calls us to examine our hearts, renew our trust in God, and step forward in faith.
Let us pray for the spirit of hope this Jubilee inspires. May we courageously walk through the doors God opens, trusting His plan. Together, let us embrace the promise of the Jubilee: through Christ, every ending becomes a new beginning, and every door leads closer to His love. May this new year bring peace, joy, and a renewed sense of hope for all of us. Happy New Year!
