With all the restrictions in place due to COVID-19, we will sadly be unable to host our 14th Annual David Hopkins Memorial Spaghetti Dinner this year. This event is a favorite of both our parish and Day School families and it generates boxes and boxes of nonperishable foods for St. Mark’s Neighborhood Pantry. But it takes more than a pandemic to keep Christ Church down! We will be collecting non-perishable food throughout the month of January to help stock the shelves at St. Mark’s Neighborhood Foor Pantry. Most needed items are:

Look for the blue tubs outside the CCDS gate on C Avenue, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to drop off your donations. Or you can order online from this WISH LIST and your order will ship to Amy Ennenga, the outreach coordinator at St. Mark's.

The nominating committee has been hard at work seeking out those who might best fill the open seats on the Christ Church Vestry. The nominees have been confirmed and they are Craig Blasingame, Keith Butenshon. and Julie Young. Learn a little more about them by reading their bios here.

Contrary to previous postings there were only three open seats on the 2021 Vestry.

A new parish directory will be heading your way soon. To make sure that your information is correct you'll want to visit your profile in Realm and update your contact information and privacy preferences if necessary. Those preferences will dictate who may view what in your profile. Your contact info in Realm will be what is included in the new directory - ie. address, phone numbers, email, etc.

A profile already exists for every parishioner - you only need to log-in for access. If you haven't yet registered, you may do so by clicking the "Register Here" button.

The Realm Help Center has instructions on how to manage your profile. An array of topics is covered from adding a photo, updating contact and personal information, to managing your privacy preferences. Contact Christie Tugend if you have questions.

Drawing on the words of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr., Presiding Bishop Michael Curry implored Americans to choose community over chaos in a message to The Episcopal Church as the United States reels from the Jan. 6 mob attack on the Capitol, incited by President Donald Trump and led by his supporters.

“This past Wednesday, … a monument to democracy, the Capitol of the United States of America was desecrated and violated with violence by vandals. Lives were lost. A nation was wounded. Democracy itself was threatened,” Curry said in a message to the church on Jan. 8. Read more...

This Epiphany, you are invited to deepen your spiritual practices with a fifteen-minute prayer and music reflection. The service is called Lauds, and it uses resources from Daily Prayer for All Seasons and the Book of Common Prayer.

A Lauds service is traditionally offered in the early morningng; an opportunity to greet the new day with praise and reflection. The service will first stream on YouTube at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. It will also be shared at 6:00 a.m. Monday morning on Facebook. But please don't limit yourself to those times.

It was great to see so many parishioners at last Sunday's service. We hope you'll decide to use the Zoom link and attend this Sunday's Epiphany 2 Morning Prayer. This service is live and enables the Christ Church family to worship together. The new addition of lyrics makes singing along so easy! Sign in a little before 10:00 a.m. to make sure your connection is working properly. Some parishioners choose to attend without video, which is just fine but remember to join with audio so you can hear everyone.

Encourage fellow parishioners to join in and share the link with friends and family so they may participate wherever they may be. And....we hope you'll stay tuned in for coffee hour following the service.

Children's Chapel will spend the season of Epiphany exploring the psalms. We will use our bodies and our hearts to listen deeply, share our connections, and ultimately write our own psalm. This 6-week series will invite children deeper into this section of scripture. For younger children, we invite families to participate together in the weekly offering.

Making time for groups and studies is tough for me; somehow life and work tend to get in the way, but this Sacred Ground study has been different. The content is very compelling and our group discussions are always engaging. The small group setting has enabled me to connect with fellow parishioners in an honest and supportive way, forging new friendships and solidifying existing ones. Four Sacred Ground groups, totaling forty parishioners, have been meeting since last October. If you missed the first round you now have the opportunity to join in a new session of Sacred Ground set to begin in February.

Sacred Ground is a 10-session film and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. The group will meet on Zoom every three weeks to discuss the films and readings for the sessions.

Registration closes on January 19, meetings will begin the week of February 1. Link to website

Christ Church Day School is hosting a Virtual Open House Saturday, January 23. We will share how we engage our students to reason, create, serve, and lead. For the first time ever, Christ Church will hold its annual meeting virtually via Zoom, Sunday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. Annual reports are being gathered and will be available online prior to the meeting. A parish-wide mailing will be coming your way soon which will include meeting information and much, much more!

The parish office and day school will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 18. MLK Day has traditionally been a day of service but in these times of COVID-19 our service opportunities are limited. Learn more about "a day on, not a day off" at the AmeriCorps website and find safe volunteer projects in our area.

Our offices are closed per State of California orders. This means that only staff may be in the building. By the front door, we have placed a basket with bulletins and formation resources, so do not hesitate to stop by to make a pick-up! However, we will be unable to let anyone inside. The phone will continue to be answered during office hours from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and all of the staff may be reached via email!
