PARISH e-NEWS & UPDATES - August 23, 2020
Update on Wildfires and Air Quality from the Diocese
Given the wildfires in the mountains on both sides of our Diocese and the poor air quality, we want to provide you with an update as well as information and resources that are available.

LIVE THE LITURGY : Inspiration for the Week
To stand in the presence of God is to stand in the presence of incomprehensible mystery. We are people of proofs and facts. With good reason, we are becoming more doubtful of what presents itself to us, as technology makes it easy to fabricate false images and distort what is actually true. What we think is real actually may not be. We become skeptical. Does this skepticism affect our relationship with God? To have faith in God means that we must be willing to trust in the absence of full knowledge. To know the mind of God means we would know God himself, and that is impossible. To acknowledge Jesus as the Christ means we acknowledge that the reality and presence of an incarnate God has a fundamental claim on who we are. When we name this truth, we participate in a depth of knowledge that stretches us far beyond the scope of our minds. It brings us to silence, which is the only way to touch our soul.

STEWARDSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
MISSION CO-OP - AUGUST
Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (Lyke Community)

Every year we get to hear from a missionary from another part of the world. This year because of the pandemic, the appeal will be done online.  This year we hear from the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (Lyke Community).

The Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (a.k.a. Lyke Community) was founded in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1993 by nine young men who had undergone their initial formation in the Order of Friars Minor (OFM). Since the foundation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope, the community has also been known by another name “The Lyke Community”. This name was adopted in memory of Archbishop James Patterson Lyke of Atlanta, Georgia.
Through their Charism of giving hope, they reach out to the most vulnerable in the society from their Parishes - nine in the US + 3 in Kenya (including 19 out-stations/mission churches).  https://www.lykecommunity.org/parish-ministires.

TO MAKE A GIFT to the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope, please send your check to
St. Julie Billiart Parish - in the memo line, please either state that your gift is for the Mission Co-op or for the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope.

Your ongoing monetary gifts are greatly needed and appreciated. Your Sunday Offertory gift sustains this parish.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)

An Invitation That Never Ends
  • Have you been worshiping with us, but never officially taken the step to become Catholic?
  • Have you been away from the Church, and have now returned, but want to know more?
  • Have you been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist)?
  • Have you joined us from a different background and would like to find out more about the Catholic Church?

If you (“or someone you know”) answers YES to any of these questions, you are invited to find out more through the process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It is a journey that begins with your questions. There is no obligation to join us as you discover more about your Catholic faith. The decision is ultimately yours to discern if this is to be your spiritual home. The invitation is always open: RSVP when you are ready! We look forward to welcoming you.
