Big Things Coming...

Stay tuned: We're getting ready to launch a BIG idea!

In the meantime, keep posting your ideas, big and small on Launchpad. There's no need to reinvent the wheel! If there is something you encounter in your day-to-day job that could be improved or fixed, we want to hear it.

If you don't have a Launchpad account, reach out to Maureen to get set up.

Idea Spotlight

Joe Marrotta had the idea to offer recycling for solar eclipse glasses. Hannah Szuch helped find a local organization to partner with. And within just a few days, we collected over 300 pairs of glasses from the community to be donated!

Celebrating JUNETEENTH

On June 15, the PDOP DEI committee partnered with Village of Oak Park in celebrating Juneteenth 2024! This was the 6th Annual Juneteenth Cookout, and it was a success! Many different local groups and organizations came out and we celebrated as one.

Become a Citizen Scientist in our Parks!

iNaturalist is a 'Citizen Science' program where everyday people can contribute to scientific research by cataloging what they see when they are out in nature.

Did you know that PDOP has an iNaturalist group? Any observations of plants, animals, and other living things can be added so we can see what wildlife makes its home in our parks. To date, we've had 218 observations in our parks!

Help us make observations while you are out in the parks! Even if you do not know what you saw, the iNaturalist community will crowdsource suggestions so your species can be identified. No expertise required!

Here's how:

  1. Download the iNaturalist app and make an account.
  2. Join the group through the app or at this link: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/park-district-of-oak-park
  3. Using the app, take pictures or record audio of animals you see, and click "Add to Project." Scroll down until you find the Park District of Oak Park logo and submit!
