After a nationwide search, the East Bay Regional Park District has announced the appointment of Chief Roberto Filice as its new Assistant General Manager of Public Safety and Police Chief. The Public Safety division encompasses fire, police, and lifeguard services.

“We are pleased to welcome Chief Roberto Filice, a highly seasoned leader and law enforcement executive with over 25 years of dedicated public service, to the East Bay Regional Park District,” said General Manager Sabrina Landreth. “We look forward to his leadership and strong sense of community service in this important role that prioritizes public safety, quality of life, and exceptional park experiences.”

Carbonator Fired Up for the Season

The East Bay Regional Park District is using a new machine called a carbonator to fight fire with fire, literally. Being used at Anthony Chabot Regional Park right now, the carbonator is disposing of dead and dying trees as part of a large 365-acre fuels reduction project. The carbonator burns organic matter at extremely high temperatures (about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit) using very little oxygen, which results in very low greenhouse gas emissions – especially compared to the conventional open pile burning or transporting loads long distances off-site in diesel trucks. More info.

2024 Wall Calendar: Celebrating 90 Years

The 2024 Wall Calendar celebrates the Park District’s 90th Anniversary. Pick up a calendar (while supplies last) in person at visitor centers during regular open hours.

Or, drop by District headquarters at 2950 Peralta Oaks Court, Oakland, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.

Regional Parks Foundation members receive a wall calendar in the mail as one of the many benefits of membership support.
