Dear Parents,

Understandably, many feel there is little to be thankful for this year, but I have a number of things for which I am thankful that I wanted to share with you.

Firstly, personally, COVID has brought my family together in many ways. Through spending more time with one another, I feel closer and more connected with my sons and husband. It has helped us get through a great many things this year. For this, I am very thankful. I am also thankful that I was able to make health a priority this year. I am working out and eating at home, and I feel better and more able to serve those around me.

Secondly, I am thankful for our students. They constantly remind me of the joys of innocence and childhood. I am thankful each day for the perspective they bring to my life and the inherent goodness they share so willingly. They make it impossible not to be optimistic even in times such as these.

Thirdly, I am thankful for our parents. It is not easy being a parent right now. We all want the best for our children, and I thank every parent for knowing that Park Maitland strives every day to be the best fit for them academically, socially, and emotionally. I thank all our parents for hanging in there, even if they are not 100% sure every day. I am thankful for every comment on the parent survey, both constructive and affirming. That so many were willing to invest their time in completing the survey with honest responses is a testament to our parents’ commitment to making Park Maitland the very best it can be.

Lastly, I am thankful for our wonderful, hard-working, amazing staff. There are no accolades that can adequately describe my love for them. They understand, appreciate, and love your children. They are professional, rigorous teachers with high expectations who help your children exceed those expectations with support and empathy. They take joy in celebrating all your children’s triumphs and encourage them through any challenges. They are the beating heart and very soul of Park Maitland School. I hope they know the level of gratitude I feel toward them every day.

I hope you all have a safe, restful and happy Thanksgiving. We have almost made it to 2021, and for that too, I am thankful!

Very Warmly,
Mrs. Spillmann
Native American Festival
The Native American Festival is one of our favorite traditions at Park Maitland School. It's one that our third graders will always cherish! Students had the full cultural experience thanks to Jim Sawgrass, who stated historic stories of his ancestors. Through his teachings our students learned how Native Americans traded, used tools, and celebrated with traditional dances! To end the day on a great note, we had a special appearance by Mr. Nelson, who performed a wonderful presentation for the students. All this and more can be viewed here.
Park Maitland is my heart. It is my soul. So often, it’s every child and all of my friends here who provide the smiles and the glue that make my life a complete picture...one that I love....my story. My love of loves. Nearly half my life in this one precious place with all the trees, the flowers with their hidden humming, the magic, and the whispers of such unparalleled children.

After twenty years, who could ask for more? I just can’t explain the years as they’ve passed; it’s flown so fast, like clouds above my boat. The parades, the songs, and the animal friends we have shared, the laughter straight from our toes; the tribe of us all. We are bound forever together, and I count on that. I take it with me everywhere I go. Oh, I love this place...all the silly stuff, all the wonder. The children. I’m blessed beyond whatever I could have ever imagined.
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Winners
