"Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one." ~ Malcolm Forbes

"In times of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists."   ~ Eric Hoffer

Dear Parents,

Our teachers and staff joined with thousands of independent school educators from across the state at the annual FCIS (Florida Council
of Independent Schools) convention this week
for outstanding professional growth and collegiality. The keynote speakers brought the Park Maitland goals and mission into focus and validated what we do here -- educating the whole child in an ever changing world with emphasis on academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Children of today need an education that is challenging, enlightening, and enriching.

Throughout the three days of a meeting of the minds with educational leaders and experts from around the world, it was loud and clear that students of today need engagement in the process -- a growth mindset, tenacity, creativity, social skills, empathy, accelerated learning, high expectations, challenges, courage to fail, STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Math), and joyful learning!

Two of our own "experts," Brett Carrier and Evelyn McCulloch gave an outstanding presentation on Creating a Culture of Critique, how we use constructive feedback from teachers, other experts, and peers in our classes as a method of continuous growth based on the premise that learning is never perfected or finished but always a journey of growth!

I'm always impressed and humbled by our outstanding/dedicated teaching staff who demonstrate each day their commitment to grow and learn in order to best meet the needs of our students in today's world! Their ability to ignite learning, motivate, and engage our students is awe-inspiring!

Yours truly,

Cindy Moon
