Teacher Tuesday
I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher my entire life. You can ask my neighborhood friends about all of the "homework" I assigned them while growing up. I began teaching 27 years ago. I spent the first couple of years teaching Kindergarten and First Grade; I absolutely loved it! I was in graduate school and my degree was originally Elementary School Counseling. My husband was accepted to medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia, and I found out that I could not finish my counseling degree in time before our move. As luck would have it, I was able to change my degree to Library Science. I had to take 18 credit hours during the summer, and this was the first year UCF had online classes (a long, long time ago!), but Earth and Venus aligned, I was able to graduate on time. Coincidentally, the school I worked for at the time had a librarian position open up due to quite a few of the teachers leaving to open the new Celebration school near Disney. Once I had the library position, I never looked back!

I taught for 4 years in Quaker Schools in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and then started to build my own family. I took a few years off to start my own home daycare so I could stay home with my own children while my husband was in residency. When my youngest was 4, I began substituting at Park Maitland. I happened to mention to Donna Wood if a library position ever opens up, I would appreciate it if she would consider me. This opportunity came a lot quicker than any of us thought! I've been teaching at Park Maitland for 15 years now, and all three of my children attended here as well.

I will tell anyone who will listen that I have the best job at Park Maitland School! I get to read books to your children! There's a lot more to my job than that, but my favorite part is helping the child who can't find what they want to read. It's like a puzzle to me. The key is to find SOMETHING they are passionate about and go from there!

Outside of my life at Park Maitland School, I love spending time with my husband and children. All three children are in college, so time is precious! During my spare time, you can find me curled up with either my cats or a good book on my patio! Oh, I forgot to mention, yes, I'm a crazy cat lady!
