Park Slope Civic Council

Due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy on communities throughout the city, the Park Slope Civic Council's Halloween Parade has been cancelled. Personnel from Police, Sanitation, and other city agencies -- all of whom are need for a successful parade -- are being deployed to parts of the city hard hit by Sandy to aid in recovery efforts.

"Even though the streets in the neighborhood are walkable we felt this was not a priority given needs elsewhere in the City," said Civic Council President Michael Cairl, "and we agreed to cancel the parade."

Please be sure to join us for next year's Halloween Children's Parade: Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.

The Park Slope Civic Council hopes you and your family and friends got through the hurricane safely. For more information on the effects of the storm, closures, and more:

Founded in 1896, the Park Slope Civic Council is one of the oldest civic associations in Brooklyn. The Civic Council's mission is to enrich, support, protect, and advocate for Park Slope's thriving population and its essential neighborhood character. We encourage community building and development through a series of fun, educational, and beautification events such as well-known Children's Halloween Parade, the Spring and Fall Civic Sweeps, efforts to transform Grand Army Plaza and the Fourth Avenue corridor, the annual Holiday Toy Drive, and community grants. The popular annual House Tour generates thousands of dollars to facilitate our sponsorship of valuable non-profit institutions and projects.
