2023 has continued to be active for us here in the Life Sciences practice at Park Square! While the fundraising climate has been choppier than in recent years past, we are nonetheless gratified to have remained busy working with great clients who are faring well in the current environment. A few observations over the last few months, which will likely come as no surprise to those in our ecosystem, are:
- Inflation and challenging capital markets are putting significant pressure on life sciences companies, which is forcing them to focus on shifting operational strategies and securing access to non-dilutive capital.
- AI/ML and data analytic capabilities continue to represent attractive investment/growth opportunities for life science organizations, and we are seeing increasing cases where these platforms are generating real and previously unattainable insights – and we are still in the early innings.
- Investors are now looking to deploy capital into those companies that are leveraging data science capabilities and analytics to not only generate efficient ROI, but also show demonstrable evidence that products and technologies will work as intended.
As a result, we are seeing an uptick in demand for Business/Corporate Development talent, and we continue to expand our work with clients operating at the intersection of computation and life sciences. Executives who have an appreciation for, and ideally exposure to, data science are increasingly in demand.
We are thrilled to welcome the BIO conference back to our hometown next week in Boston, where we will be actively engaged in meeting client companies, investors, and executives in what promises to be an exhaustingly efficient week of catching up with friends and colleagues. We look forward to seeing you there!
