PARKS & RECREATION ROUNDUP
APRIL 9, 2019
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Haymaker Summer Programs
While opening day is still several weeks away, Haymaker Golf Course is already preparing for summer. Check out the new and improved website for information on all of Haymaker's upcoming events and unique instructional programs for all ages and ability levels. Season passes and punch cards are on sale now, with a new Monday - Thursday pass option available.
Pickleball Expansion Explored
The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs is currently exploring expansion opportunities that will help meet the growing demand for Pickleball. Last month, the Tennis Center held two community open houses to share concepts and solicit input on the proposed expansion. The most popular plan includes a facility with indoor and outdoor courts, as well as a multi-sport field house.
Spring Median Cleanup
It's time for some spring cleaning! Crews will be cleaning the landscaped medians along U.S. Highway 40, as well as the Mount Werner Road medians and traffic circles. The project will take place during the week of spring break (April 22-April 26), weather permitting. Work will begin after 8 AM and end by 4 PM to minimize impacts, but expect minor delays and lane closures.
Keeping Our Wildlife Wild
The first signs of spring bear activity have been observed, and the city asks that you be "bear aware", and take several easy steps to help keep our wildlife where they belong - in the wild. Take the extra time to secure your trash can and use the bear bar on dumpsters. Also, clean up items around your home, such as pet food and bird feeders, to help limit issues down the road.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Mud Season UTR Tournament
The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs hosts the Mud Season Singles & Doubles UTR Tournament on April 13-14. The event is open to males and females of all ages, and is a truly level based tournament (you could play anyone of any age). The event uses the UTR (Universal Tennis Rating), which has become the most reliable rating system for players of all ages and abilities.
Wild Films - Earth Day Shorts
The Bud Werner Memorial Library will host Wild Films - Earth Day Shorts on Thursday, April 11 from 6:30 PM to 8 PM at Library Hall. The event will feature three exciting documentaries from the 2018 International Wildlife Film Festival. Wild Films at the Library is a free series that helps promote awareness, knowledge, and understanding of wildlife, habitat, and human interaction.
