AUGUST 11, 2020
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
School Year Youth Programs
While much still remains uncertain, the City of Steamboat Springs will be offering child care this school year. The new Education Exploration program will help supplement the school district's plans for a phase 3 schedule (every-other-day schooling) with full-day care. The program will be available daily Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The application process, cost, and location are still TBD, so stay tuned!
New Moon Glow Ball
Don't miss your chance to play under the light of the moon as Haymaker Golf Course is illuminated by thousands of glow sticks and glow-in-the-dark balls. This fun team event takes place this Friday, August 14 from 9 PM to 12 AM, and the cost to play is $40 per person. Also, check out the latest from Callaway during their Demo Day this Friday. Visit the website or call the Golf Shop for more information and to register!

Howelsen Ice Arena Reopens
A deep freeze returned to the Howelsen Ice Complex this week as it reopened the doors after a four month closure. The rink, which was originally set to reopen in mid September, was able to open early thanks to a partnership with the Steamboat Youth Hockey Association. The rink is currently open for private and organizational rentals only, but hopes to reopen to the public for skating and bumper cars this fall or winter.
Musical Scavenger Hunt
Strings Music Festival has launched an interactive musical scavenger hunt through downtown Steamboat Springs. This unique adventure features trivia challenges that highlight many special places you'll find only in our unique town. It's easy, you just need to download a free app to get started. The first 200 people to complete the course receive a free kiddie-size ice cream from Lyon's Corner Drug & Soda Fountain.
E-Use Info and Etiquette
With so many people getting outside this summer, we've seen an increase in the use of electric devices on our trails, streets and sidewalks. We want to ensure that users are aware of the rules of the trail so they can recreate safely. Only Class 1 e-bikes and e-scooters are allowed on paved city trails. Electric toys such as one wheels, electric skateboards and hover boards are not permitted on trails, streets or sidewalks.
