FEBRUARY 27, 2020
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Commercial River Permits
Did you know the Yampa River flows 250 miles through NW Colorado? Not only is it a vital element for our community, but also for our economy and numerous commercial businesses. NEW businesses interested in commercial operations on the Yampa River must apply for a commercial permit by 5:30 PM on Friday, February 28. Visit the link below to learn more about river permits and commercial use guidelines.
Firework Clean Up Crew
The Steamboat Springs Rugby Football Club is coordinating their annual Emerald Mountain firework debris clean up, which has been a tradition for many years. Each spring, club members head up Emerald to the firework launch site, then work as a team to collect and catalog debris. This process continues until no more debris is located. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to join!
Cooling the Yampa
"Cooling the Yampa River" filmed this past summer is a MUST watch! Kelly Romero-Heaney, Water Resources Manager with the City beautifully explains the importance of protecting our beloved Yampa River. As one of the last free-flowing rivers in the West, local groups have initiated several reforestation projects, helping cool the river and combat the effects of climate change to keep our valuable resource healthy.
