PARKS & RECREATION ROUNDUP
JULY 14, 2020
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Howelsen Skatepark Clean-Up
A big thank you to the folks from Go Skate Steamboat who came out and helped clean up the Howelsen Hill Skate Park. The park had recently fell victim to a rash of graffiti and vandalism, which threatened to close the park indefinitely. Thanks to the help of around 30 volunteers, the graffiti in the park was removed, features received a fresh coat of paint and all of the trash was picked up. Thank you to everyone who pitched in!
Volleyball Leagues Return
While things will look different this summer, we are excited to share that registration is now open for the Summer Adult Volleyball Leagues. We will be offering several 4v4 and 2v2 leagues, with an abbreviated six week regular season. League play will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on July 21, with a playoff tournament the first week of September. Due to group size requirements, space is limited.
Town Challenge Goes Virtual
While we all wish we could be racing in person this summer, we are excited for the first-ever Virtual Town Challenge bike race. This fun new spin on the Town Challenge race series is perfect for seasoned race pros and casual first-timers alike. The cost to register is only $10 and ALL proceeds benefit the COVID-19 Response Fund. All participants will have until July 19 to ride the course and submit their tracking info.
Music on the Green
Strings Music Festival and Yampa River Botanic Park are excited to announce that Music on the Green will be taking place this summer. The Yampa River Botanic Park will host four, free outdoor concerts starting with the first concert on Friday, July 17 at 10 AM. Due to current group size limits, a ticket is required, but admission is still free. Visit the Strings Music Festival website to learn more and reserve your spot today!
Employment Opportunities
Do you enjoy a flexible schedule and working outdoors? If so, you should check out our list of open summer seasonal positions. Haymaker Golf Course is looking for Outside Service staff to help with golf course operations, and the Parks Division is looking to hire several Seasonal Parks Workers to help beautify and maintain city parks, trails and facilities.
