PARKS & RECREATION ROUNDUP
MARCH 24, 2020
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Youth Activity Kits
Our youth programs staff members have been working diligently to create weekly take-home activity kits for our local youth. The first round of kits will be available this Thursday, March 26 at 10 AM. Kits will be located outside the main entrance of the Parks & Recreation office (245 Howelsen Parkway) in plastic bins. The kits will be available for pick-up all week, and will be replaced with new kits each Thursday.
Fairy Garden House Contest
Whether you are looking for an interactive project for your kids while they are home from school, or a brief escape from reality and current events, the Yampa River Botanic Park's Fairy Garden House Contest provides the perfect opportunity to get creative this spring. The contest is open to children of all ages, but one builder must be under 12 years of age. Entries are due by June 11. Click below for contest details.
Howelsen Hill Nordic Trails
Although we've closed down operations for the season, we will continue to groom the Nordic trails 5-6 times per week (conditions permitting) for folks to get outside and get some exercise. Uphill access via Howelsen Hill will also be available for a brief period. Howelsen Hill Lodge will remain closed, and we ask that you refrain from gathering in groups and that everyone practice social distancing and stay home if feeling sick.
Daily Park Sanitizing
We know that many of you are still trying to get outside and have been utilizing the City's parks and trails. We are taking measures to help keep everyone healthy, by implementing daily sanitizing rounds to each of our parks and along the Yampa River Core Trail. Our parks staff has been busy making sure that trash cans are emptied and that all playground equipment, benches and picnic tables are sanitized.
