July is National Parks and Recreation Month! All throughout the month of July, we invite you to celebrate with us, our p assionate staff and essential workers who continue to provide services that are vital to South San Francisco. A variety of FREE virtual activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities - sponsored by the  South San Francisco Friends of Parks and Recreation . W e'll also be sharing exploratory activities you can partake at your local parks. We invite you to check out our official Parks and Recreation Month website weekly for new activities coming soon. Check-it out!

Congratulations 2020 Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art Scholarship Finalist!

The Cultural Arts Commission was pleased to award the 2020 Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art Scholarship to Helen Wilborn of South San Francisco High School. She received a $2,000 award and was acknowledged at City Council and Cultural Arts Commission meetings. A virtual gallery page of her art work is posted online at www.ssf.net/culturalarts .

The Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art Scholarship was established for the purpose of providing eligible graduating seniors from the South San Francisco Unified School District continued education in the visual arts. The scholarship is financed exclusively by community donations.
“Joy, Laugh, Fun, Share” Public Art Installation

Enjoy the first of many planned video presentations featuring SSF Public Art installations on the Parks and Recreation Department's You Tube channel. The video at   https://youtu.be/hVuRQrzfEaY highlights the Children’s Tile Project at the Alta Loma Park Playground. I t is t itled “Joy, Fun, Laugh, Share,” a nd was a collaboration between the SSF Cultural Arts Commission and the Childcare After School Recreation Program. Sixty-four ceramic tiles with whimsical images were carefully designed and painted by children in the program.  You are invited to share their experience.

Let’s color South San Francisco! What brings you joy? What do you like to do for fun? What makes you laugh? Share with us via a drawing, painting, a collage or any form of art! Drawing our inspiration from the Alta Loma Park Playground Art installation “Joy, Laugh, Fun, Share”, we invite community members of all ages to our next Virtual Art activity to help spread some sunshine and happiness to our lives.
