A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Parks and libraries… two great spaces that go great together!
Redwood City’s neighborhood parks are unique, inclusive, beautiful spaces that range in size from a quarter of an acre to larger multi-use parks that are 40 acres. Like libraries, parks are for everyone to enjoy. They both create a cohesive environment that cultivates unity and encourages learning.
In February 2017 the idea to build a park adjacent to the Downtown Library began to take form when the City Council held a Study Session regarding the implementation of the Downtown Precise Plan (DTTP). As a result, the City Council commissioned a study to provide recommendations for park development in downtown Redwood City. The site adjacent to the Downtown Library where Rosselli Park and Library Parking Lot A currently exist was selected as the first Downtown Park location, and the beginning of a corridor of park space that will connect Downtown all the way to the Bay Trail.
From the beginning, Library staff have been integral partners on the planning team to create a family-friendly multigenerational shared outdoor recreation space in the heart of the city. We see many opportunities for synergy between the Library’s programs and services and the new park, and we hope to create a seamless transition between the library building and the outdoors that is accessible to visitors of all abilities.
While many residents are very excited about the new park space, others have expressed concerns about the impacts of reduced parking near the Library. The good news is that parking spaces near the Library are easy to find during library service hours these days (if you haven’t visited since before the pandemic, we encourage you to come back and see us!) In addition, plentiful garage space is available downtown on evenings and weekends. We will be very attentive to preserving accessible parking options for the Library and the new park, and we are certain that the park will enhance the community’s experience of the library and the Downtown as a whole.
Your Library Director,
Derek Wolfgram

PRIDE MONTH RECOMMENDATIONS!
|
|
It's Pride Month, and in recognition of queer history, heroes, and literature we have put together a Pride recommendations list. This list includes streaming movies, eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Did you know? The first Pride march in New York City was held on June 28, 1970, on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. By all estimates, there were three to five thousand marchers at the inaugural Pride in New York City. Today, marchers in New York number in the millions.
