A Word From Our Pastor

Psalm 118:1 says, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” It is worth remembering that eternity stretches as far into the past as it does into the future. It is true that God’s love for us has no end, and that is because it has existed in eternity past. There was never a time that God did not love you. So. Let’s gather in worship and celebrate the fact that things like His mercy, His steadfast love, and His lovingkindness endure forever. I hope that our journey through Lent has revealed this truth even as we anticipate seeing it on full display in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

You are invited to our every morning breakfast gatherings, 8:00am – 9:00am, Monday – Friday, in the Fellowship Hall this week as our network of churches meet to enjoy fellowship and lessons that will focus our attention on the cross. Our next Holy Convocation will take place on Wednesday, April 5, at 6:00pm as we gather for our midweek service. Our Good Friday Communion Service will be Friday, April 7, at 6:00pm. I hope you will take advantage of all that your schedule allows.

I hope you will join us this Sunday. For Plam Sunday, we will step out of our study in the gospel of Mark and turn our attention to the gospel of John and to a question that Jesus asked the night that He was arrested. Our services are 9:30 and 11:00 and can be viewed online at both our Facebook and YouTube pages (search pbclc).

Please be sure to scroll down and check out the links to some of the upcoming events that might interest you. Thank you for you faithfulness and your generosity to the work here at Parkview. We look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Sincerely,

Pastor Mike

WEDNESDAYS

Easter at Parkview

The resurrection of Jesus is a big deal. It validates everything that we believe to be true about the Christian faith and life.

While Easter is important for believers, it is important to non-believers as well, even if for different reasons. People in our communities attend church on Easter. They expect to be invited to an Easter Sunday service. Many will attend church for the first time this year, some for the first time ever. We encourage you to be intentional about this Easter. Begin praying for who you might invite...and then invite them! Pick up some invite cards in the Welcome Center this Sunday!

We have a lot going on! Check out our website for all things Easter this year!

EASTER AT PARKVIEW

Encouraged by our persecuted brothers and sisters’ example, we meet for over 6 hours for intense study of God's Word and passionate prayer for the persecuted. Light refreshments will be provided. Childcare will not be available.

Volunteer Spotlight: Kristi Croft

Parkview just wouldn't be the same without all of our amazing volunteers! We are super thankful for Kristi for her faithful service!

Where are you from?

I was born in Gainesville, Florida and grew up in Lake City, Florida

Where did you go to school?

Columbia High and Lake City Community College

What is/was your occupation?

Medical Laboratory Technologist at Cancer Care of North Florida

Tell us about your family! (spouse/children)

John and I have been married for 31 years and have three children, Robin (LeLand), Jay (Monica), and Emma, and 4 grandchildren, Audrey, Lawson, Aria, and Johnnie.

How long have you been attending Parkview?

We started attending Parkview a week or two after the grand opening of the gym/student ministries area. Which ministries do you serve in?

I am the 2-year-old life group leader and Jamaica Mission Partnership leader. I also participate in the Sharon Mission group. In the past I have worked in AWANA and in the fourth-grade life group class and prayer room. I have been on three of the previous Jamaica mission trips and one of the construction mission trips.

Do you have a favorite volunteer role?

I love, love, love all things mission. It doesn’t matter if it is just gathering things up for the Pregnancy Care Center baby shower or traveling to other places to share the love of God. However, teaching the two- and three-year-olds who Jesus is and hearing them sing songs to Jesus must be my favorite.

Why is it important to you to serve?

I feel that if you are not serving, you are suppressing the Holy Spirit that was gifted to you when you accepted Christ. If I don’t serve, I am not being the example that Jesus modeled for us. Not everyone is called to do the same thing and some phases of our lives the way we serve may change. but even if it is to call people with uplifting words there is always some way to serve.

How have those you serve at our church responded?

Most people are very grateful to turn their children over to you for a couple of hours. (Just kidding….I think) The relationship you build with the children is precious and special. Having a child feel comfortable and enjoy coming to your class makes it all worth it. It makes it easier on the parent when they enjoy coming. The people who have been recipients of the acts of service we do in the Sharon mission group have always been so thankful.

How has volunteering had an impact on you?

The biggest impact volunteering has had on me is seeing the bigger picture. I can come into church feeling like I would have rather slept in but once I get in the class with the children and see their smiles and hear their laughter it is much better than sleeping in. Knowing that I am starting the teaching foundation of their faith is humbling. Going to Jamaica and seeing other cultures but all having the love of Christ is something that just must be experienced to explain.

What have you learned about yourself or others through volunteering?

I have learned that it is okay to not know all the answers and I have learned that ministry is not something I can accomplish on my own and in my time frame. God gives us others to help and be teammates and it is in His timing that goals are reached, and lives are changed.

What has been the biggest surprise about volunteering at church?

I think the biggest surprise about volunteering is that you learn there can never be enough volunteers. Even though a class may seem like it has enough teachers or helpers there is always room for more. In our Life Group class, I will have to miss one Sunday a month to sit with my dad so my mom can go to church, but I don’t have to worry if there are plenty of helpers.

If you could encourage someone else to volunteer what would you say?

I like that movie Robots where Mr. Bigweld would say, “See a need, fill a need.” I feel like our church does that but some people don’t realize that they could feel the need if they don’t ask where help is needed.

Anything else you would like to share?

II Timothy 1:6-7 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

SUMMER CAMPS

Book (re)Marks

By Micheal Baker

Book Remarks are not book reviews, but topical posts inspired by books. This post was inspired primarily by Gary Chapman's The 5 Love Languages.

Last time, we discussed how Gary Chapman’s concept of The 5 Love Languages could be used to strengthen our romantic relationships, but near the end of that post we suggested an alternative way to use the concept of love languages – to strengthen our love for God during those times we start to feel distant from Him.

As Chapman says, “Love is a choice” (page 140), and there are several ways in which we can choose to love God. In fact, we can actually use Chapman’s love languages as a framework to help us draw closer to God.

Remember, each love language has several “dialects,” so we will see various ways we can express our love to God through obedience, regardless of which “language” we choose to speak at any particular time.

Unlike our human partners, who have a primary love language, God is fluent in all of these languages. We don’t have to experiment to see what pleases God most; our obedience pleases Him.
