A Word From Our Pastor

Psalm 5:11-12 says, “Let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.” I love that God reminds us that even when we face difficult or uncertain times, we can still rejoice when our trust is in God. No matter what brings you to Parkview, I hope that you find joy as we focus our attention on what it looks like to trust God.

This coming Wednesday, April 26, following our midweek service. As always, the packet of information for that meeting will be available at the welcome desk this Sunday. Please take some time to review that information (preferably not during the sermon). There will be opportunities to ask questions at the meeting, but please feel free to call the church office if you have any questions that you would like to discuss in detail.

I am looking forward to worship with my church family this Sunday. I love our church! We will be in Mark 12 and talking about what Jesus understood to be the first and foremost of all the commandments. I hope you will join us at 9:30 or 11:00am.

Please be sure to scroll down and check out the links to some of the events that are coming up on our calendar. Thank you for you faithfulness and your generosity to the work here at Parkview. We look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Sincerely,

Pastor Mike

Book (re)Marks

By Michael Baker

Book Remarks are not book reviews, but topical posts inspired by books. This post was inspired primarily by R. Albert Mohler, Jr.’s The Prayer That Turns the World Upside Down.

You’re probably familiar with the Golden Rule, particularly in its classic form: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (see Matthew 7:12; Luke 6:31).

But are you familiar with the Golden Mean? This concept comes from Aristotle’s discussion of virtues in his Nicomachean Ethics.

Aristotle loved to define and categorize things – including virtues. He saw a virtue as the proper response to a particular emotion. For example, fear would be an emotion, and courage would be the proper response to it.

But Aristotle typically did not consider the emotion and the virtue it prompted as opposites. For example, he did not consider courage to be the opposite of fear.
