Weekly Overviews
Our learning communities have put together one-page documents that will help you be more in touch with your student's learning. Click the links below to see what is going on in each learning community at Parkway. Please note that math courses for seventh and eighth grade are not linked to a specific team and will be sending out their own weekly updates separately.
Student Item Pick-Up
With the Governor’s executive order to close all school sites for the rest of the school year to limit the spread of COVID-19, there are many personal items left in our buildings.

Saint Paul Public Schools has developed a plan to return student’s personal belongings that were left at school before the closure in a streamlined manner while following social distancing guidelines.

Student belongings that were left in lockers, cubbies, desks, as well as medications and supplies left in the Health Office, will be cleaned out by staff, bagged, labeled and assembled for pickup. No students or families will be allowed in school buildings to retrieve personal items.

The scheduled time frame for pickup at Parkway is May 26-29:
  • May 26: 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • May 27: 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • May 28: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • May 29: 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We ask that families stay in their vehicle, follow signs for how to enter Parkway’s pickup areas, and line vehicles up to receive your student’s personal items. We will place the items in your trunk and you will exit the pick-up line:

  • Go North on Etna Street from Reaney Ave.
  • Turn left to go West on Bush Ave.
  • At the stop sign, turn right to go North on Clarence St. to the pickup area

If you walk up to Parkway, please look for signs and a check-in table. Please follow social distancing guidelines by allowing at least six feet of space between others when waiting in line.

If your student is in eighth grade or is not returning to Parkway, please be prepared to return their assigned instrument and any sheet music. Please pack up the instrument, and label the case with a piece of tape that indicates the student’s name.

If you have library books at home, please plan to return them to school. If parents are not able to arrange for pickup during the scheduled times, please call Parkway at (651) 744-1000 and leave a message or email at parkway@spps.org. Our staff will return your call as soon as possible.
Bridging Ceremony
Each year, Parkway recognizes its eighth-grade students who are moving on to high school in the coming year through a bridging ceremony. This year, due to the COVID-19 situation, we will be holding a virtual bridging ceremony in the form of a video. More information will follow in the coming weeks.

Coping through Tough Times
We see you,  parent s, and we know this is a  stress ful time.
You're being asked to do a lot. Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education. Some things to think about to take care of ourselves as  parent s...

Ask for back up when you need it.
Ask a family member to talk with your child when you need a break for yourself.  Make time to unwind and remind yourself that strong feelings will fade. Try taking in deep breaths. Try to do activities you usually enjoy.

Connect with other  parent s.
It's important to be talk with other  parent s about your  stress , to know you're not alone in your  stress , and to hear what's working from other  parent s to get new ideas. There are many on-line  parent  groups and these are a great way to connect.

Balance as best you can getting enough sleep and some exercise.
Getting enough sleep and some fresh air every day does a lot to improve our mood and stress levels. The more you experience good times and happy interactions with your kids, the easier it will be to handle parenting challenges.

Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories.
It can be upsetting to hear about the crisis and see images repeatedly. Try to do enjoyable activities and return to normal life as much as possible and check for updates between breaks.

Seek help when needed
If distress impacts activities of your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to your healthcare provider. If you're experiencing a mental health emergency, you can contact Ramsey County Crisis 24/7 at 651-266-7900 or 911 if it's a life-threatening emergency.
