A Word from the CEO
This issue concludes our three-part series on the parsonage — or housing — allowance. This article discusses how to make the most of the parsonage allowance once you retire. A key take-away: this important tax benefit for rabbis and cantors is only available on distributions from denominational retirement plans such as the JRB. See the In Case You Missed It section of the newsletter for links to the first two parts of this series.
Early July brought sad news to the JRB. One of our long-time Trustees, Robert Shapiro, passed away. Please join me in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to Bob's family for sharing his love, commitment and wisdom with the JRB for more than 25 years. We celebrate his contributions and mourn his passing. May his memory be a blessing.
Finally, I'm certain that those of you with student loans followed the Supreme Court decision that set aside the Biden Administration's proposed student loan forgiveness program. Lost behind the headlines were the parts of the President's plan that remain in effect. Read our article to understand how these provisions may allow you to reduce the burden of student loan repayment.
