Dear Friends,
How exciting it was to see this notice in the Florida Times-Union Editorial page after our 20th Annual Winter Celebration!
This year's event was one of the most memorable ever - due to the special program honoring Mandarin's World War II veterans.
Thank you so much to Dennis Short, Rob Mattson, Frank Cashman and William Hires, who served as Color Guards and placed the flags to open the program. Also to MMHS volunteers Janet Shelfer for her welcome and introduction of our event and to Paul Ghiotto for reminding us of why it is important to remember such events in history. And we loved the angelic voices of our young volunteers, Camille and Camiya Ferron as they sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.
Thank you especially to six World War II veterans who were honored during our "Mandarin Remembers Pearl Harbor" program: Wilma Arpen, Paul Dymond, Charlotte Leslein, Jim Snellen, Dan Stanley and George Waldoch.
Our gratitude is also great for the volunteers of MMHS AND the volunteers of all the non-profit organizations that participated. This event is educational, fun and enriching because of your presence. A special thanks to the Rotary Club of Mandarin who kept our visitors safe crossing the road and to Bank of America volunteers who helped where needed.
Please enjoy these photos taken by Gabriele Dempsey and Tracey and Sandy Arpen. We apologize that we didn't get photos of everything that was going on, but they certainly capture the breadth and spirit of the day.
Mandarin Museum and the historic St. Joseph's Mission Schoolhouse for African American Children will be open every Saturday in December fro 9-4.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
