Part I: In the midst of a global pandemic, INSTE Hybrid Groups thrive.
IGBC had the pleasure of asking Pastor Ximena Urra from Templo de la Biblia Abierta in West Miami, FL about their local and hybrid groups in Miami and in the country of Chile. Ximena shares:

For several years, Open Bible Temple has utilized INSTE in the training of leaders within our church. Once the pandemic hit, we immediately sought a feasible way to work online with our church group leaders. I was familiar with the Zoom platform and thank God we wasted no time in continuing the class schedule as we started something that was new to us, but not to God.

With the collaboration of our group leaders: Alberto Hernandez, Maria Fernandez, and myself, we were able to finish the classes during the pandemic and witness 3 students from Second Level graduate in 2020 and another 11 students from First Level in 2021. To our amazement, we were able to start two new First and Second Level Classes.

At the beginning of the pandemic my (Ximena's) older brother Pablo, who lives in Chile, told me about his desire to seek more of God and that if it were necessary he would start from scratch. Along with his wife, Cecilia, we agreed to start studying the book of John via Zoom. They invited other friends to the Bible studies, and suddenly a group of two grew to twelve. Seeing in them a desire to learn more about God and His Word, I shared with them about INSTE and arranged to meet with their pastor to explain about the program in more detail. Then my husband and I were blessed to meet, via Zoom, Pastor Jose Albornoz from the Agape Church of Christ in Chile and introduce him to the INSTE program. With the help of Rev. Vince McCarty, Pastor Juan Cruz (INSTE Latin America Director), and Pastor Elias Leiva (INSTE Chile) an online Level One class was started with 11 students from Chile and 1 student from our church.

While I prayed for the group from Chile and their needs, I did not know if I was the right person to lead another INSTE class. Then God spoke to my heart. In John 21:17 (NTV) his word told me "if you love me, then feed my sheep". There was no doubt this assignment came from the Lord.

We are already in the third book of the first level: Old Testament. Although not everyone chose to continue to study, I thank God for each and every student, for the opportunity to serve without territorial limits, and for the blessing of seeing how both groups —the one from Chile and the groups from our church— have grown in love, in faith, in the knowledge of God, in their service to God and in their local churches.

The pandemic did not and will not stop the Lord from doing His work. On the contrary, He is expanding it through online platforms and the desire of pastors, group leaders, and sponsors to make disciples regardless of circumstances or challenges, ethnicity, culture and/or language.

God continues preparing servants for the work of ministry through this beautiful tool of INSTE and we thank God for allowing us to be a part of what He is doing and what He will do through the transformed lives of students around the world who take up the plow and never look back!

Online Classes
INSTE in the United States and Canada offers a selection of online courses for students in the Certificate and Diploma programs who would like to continue their studies with groups from across North America. Currently, all of our online courses are in English. If you are fluent in Spanish and would like to be an online facilitator, email our registrar for next steps!
This certificate program is structured around four crucial discipleship habits: personal devotions, Bible study skills, relationships, and ministry. This program focuses on the character development of the disciple. Intensive discipleship (being) plus foundational Bible and theological input (knowing) lead to ministry (doing). Each believer has gifts, talents and skills that are to be used in the Kingdom of God. Through this program, maturing disciples find their places in the Body of Christ, in which they can serve the Lord with joy and effectiveness. The base price for a Level 1 course is $90.
