An invitation to Participatory Prayer

Greetings!

On December 28, a baby was dedicated at Wilmore Free Methodist Church. Pastor Darryl Diddle invited all of the children in the congregation to join the family at the front of the sanctuary for the ceremony. When it was time for the prayer of dedication, he invited the children to stand and place their hands on him or on a family member so that they could participate in the prayers for the baby.

As I watched, I imagined Simeon or Anna inviting the children in the temple to pray with them for the baby Jesus. Knowing Jesus, I believe he would have welcomed that!

Simeon prayed, “For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations…” (Luke 2:30–31). Indeed, Jesus Christ is the only source of salvation and the one and only hope of the nations.

By now, we are sure everyone is aware of the recent military action — and perhaps the ongoing threats — in our region. Our first message on Saturday morning came from one of our leaders in Caracas, just as the operation was taking place. It was a request for prayer.

That is what we are inviting you into today: participatory prayer with our brothers and sisters in Venezuela and beyond. As they fast and pray for their nation, let us place one hand on their shoulder and the other in Jesus’ living, nail-scarred hand, and pray with them for peace. True, everlasting peace and salvation will come only through Him.

Thank you and blessings,

Ricardo & Beth Gomez
