Join First U's Events Team
Are you someone who wants to help but don’t necessarily want to be on a committee and attend regular meetings? We have something perfect for you! Please join our Events Team!
First U has been promoting our beautifully renovated space as a venue for weddings, memorial services, community events, and music concerts. It’s shaping up to be a great source of revenue for us, but we need your help now! As part of the Events Team, you’re simply joining a pool of people who will be asked to commit to specific, occasional events. There are 3 primary roles we need to fill:

  • Event Coordinator(s) – primarily responsible for communication and lining up the open/close and host volunteers for events (this role can be done from home!).
  • Opening/Closing Team – primarily responsible for preparing and resetting the space and for opening and closing the building before and after the event.
  • Host Team – be a welcoming face during the event, there to service any needs that may arise (elevator use, etc.).

For a more detailed description of the roles, or to join the Events Team, please contact Joanna Landsman at or call 207-536-1177. Thank you!

We're Hiring!
Do you know someone who loves to teach and share UU values? We're searching for a part-time (~4/week, $15/hour) religious education teacher.
Please note: While First Universalist doesn't hire from within our own congregation, we know that our members and friends often are the right source for attracting great employees.
Please Note: To sign up children or youth for any religious education programs, please fill out the form below and give it to the church office.
Copies will also be available on Sundays during coffee hour.

Partner Church Education Scholarships
Sunday, November 5, during coffee hour
First U has a special partnership with Gyepes, a small agriculture-based Unitarian village in Transylvania. Pete and Marge Titcomb have just returned from Gyepes, and are excited to share updates on 'our' kids. This will be your once-a-year opportunity to give an education sponsorship to one of the Gyepes kids so that they can further their education - $60, $360, or $660. Enjoy some Hungarian treats while you peruse the gifts we brought back! (To pre-sponsor a student, contact Marge: 846-4765.)
Help Fill Thanksgiving Baskets
Please continue First U’s contribution of frozen turkeys to Yarmouth’s Food Pantry which prepares over 80 Thanksgiving baskets for Yarmouth and other area wide families. Almost all Yarmouth churches and organizations contribute to this effort. Turkeys may be brought to church on the next two Sundays, November 5 and November 12, and the senior youth will bring them to the pantry. Or, if it is more convenient, you may deliver them to the pantry which is located across Main Street at the First Parish church. Pantry hours are Tuesday and Friday from 10:00am to noon and Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
Appeal for Volunteers for the Yarmouth Food Pantry
The Yarmouth Food Pantry is seeking new volunteers to donate a few hours a week a couple of times a month. The Pantry is located in the basement of the First Congregational Church, just across the street. It is a Yarmouth organization, under the YCAN umbrella. It operates year round, and is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm, and Wednesday afternoons/evenings from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm. The Pantry currently serve just under 80 families, and over 200 individuals per month. Most are Yarmouth folks from working families, many with children.
Please talk with Charlie Horstmann (at church or by phone 846-3985) about this opportunity to serve our community’s folks.
The town of Yarmouth intends to close Main St. on the evening of Friday 11/17/17 to demo the western half of the bridge throughout that weekend. They intend to work 24hrs per day starting Friday night until complete and re-open per contract at or before 4AM Monday 11/20/17.
Activities you should expect to see primarily include excavator hoe-ramming work to break the bridge into rubble, and hauling of debris from site by dump truck. You will see the town beginning to mobilizing and begin work over the coming days. Work between now and the closure date will include SB on-ramp work and Rte.1 mainline work to put a cross-over in place so they can put two-way traffic on the two existing NB lanes.
Pastoral Emergencies
If you are experiencing a crisis, including needing a hospital visit, you may call Rev. Jennifer Emrich on her cell phone (207.356.1467) any time. Please note that Friday and Saturdays are typically her days off - Rev. Jennifer does not check email on these days, but will answer any crisis or emergency calls.
