Partner Spotlight: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado
GlobalMindED is honored to be a partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado in their inclusive, inspiring work and look forward to their participation at the GlobalMindED Industry Marketplace next year at GlobalMindED. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves a vital role in preparing middle and high school students for success in school and beyond with their mentoring program. They have been creating and supporting one-to-one mentorship relationships to ignite the power and promise of youth, with the goal of ensuring that no child's potential is left unattained, providing college and career readiness, financial literacy and technical training and social emotional health support. 
 
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado was recently awarded Agency of the Year and Board of the year, out of 232 affiliate agencies nationwide and is led by Elycia Cook, the first black CEO in BBBSCO’s 104-year history, and one of this year’s honorees of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce Top 25 Women in Business. Of the 1200+ students they serve, 84% receive free or reduced lunch and 67% live in a one-parent household. We know that this can be challenging for young people, however the presence of a special adult is associated with improved school attendance and competency, parental trust, mental health, and overall promotion of pro-social behaviors and decreased delinquency.

In 2021 BBBSC partnered with BOA Technology, known for their snowboard boot designs, and launched the Career Possibilities Program to inspire and create STEM career pathways for youth in Colorado. Career Possibilities is an 8-week paid summer internship opportunity focused on exposing Littles to different career opportunities by rotating through different departments at BOA and completing an internship project.
