Partners in Education Program

DONATION TO HONOR 2021-2022 RETIRING EDUCATORS

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, in partnership with Enjoy Cherokee Magazine and WLJA 101.1 FM, is recognizing retiring educators from the Cherokee County School District by donating funds to the Sequoyah Regional Library System. The funds will be used to purchase books for the library branches located in Cherokee County. The books will include a label recognizing all faculty, staff and administrators who retired during the 2021-2022 school year. Each retiree will receive notification that a book is being donated in their honor.

“This is the thirteenth year the Chamber has acknowledged retiring educators for their valuable contribution to the lives of students in Cherokee County. The Chamber is pleased to partner with Enjoy Cherokee Magazine and WLJA 101.1 FM in this tribute to Cherokee County’s educators,” shared Chamber President & CEO Pam Carnes.

CREDIT UNION OF GEORGIA JOINS EDUCATION COMMITTEE TO THANK PARTNERS ON PI DAY

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a new initiative highlighting their Partners in Education program. In collaboration with the Credit Union of Georgia, the Chamber’s Education Committee delivered dessert pies on March 14th to each school within the Cherokee County School District as well as Chamber Member private schools who participate in the Partners in Education program.

The timing for this recognition fell on Pi Day, March 14th, due to the date falling on the fourteenth day of the third month, matching the numerical value of pi, 3.14.

OAK GROVE ELEMENTARY STEAM ACADEMY RECEIVED TWO GRANTS FROM THE CHEROKEE COUNTY EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

Oak Grove Elementary STEAM Academy received two grants from the Cherokee County Educational Foundation this semester!

One grant totaling $2,500 was donated to further teachers' professional learning on integrating the Fine Arts through STEAM. Oak Grove plans to utilize the grant to partner with the Pair Program, an arts integration program developed by the Education Office of the Springer Opera House, Georgia's Historic State Theatre.

Mrs. Angela Topper, Music Teacher at Oak Grove, was also presented with a check for $2,180 to purchase ukuleles for the school's program. She is pictured below with Ms. Hampton's third grade class.

Educators at R.M. Moore STEM Academy would like to spotlight Menchie's Frozen Yogurt at Riverstone for their partnership.

Menchie's at Riverstone sells frozen yogurt one Thursday per month during student lunches. "Not only have the kiddos loved the special treat, it has also been a huge fundraiser for our school! We are so excited to continue this partnership next year!" shared Emily Ingram, R.M. Moore STEM Academy Parent Facilitator.

There are many partnership success stories each making an impact on the schools in Cherokee County. Volunteer opportunities are whatever people want them to be, as just one hour can make a difference in the life of a child. As business leaders you need to develop the human capital that exists right here in the community. Your future leaders and employees are eager to know you, learn from you and be inspired by you!

Partnering is not just about filing papers in the front office. Partnering is about mentoring students, volunteering for special functions, providing internships and/or job shadowing opportunities, sponsoring school clubs, helping with incentive awards for achievement and/or attendance, serving as a judge for a school event, participating in career fairs, providing tours of local businesses for students, sharing resources, reading to a class, and many more!

As you can see, there are many ways for you to make a difference in the lives of Cherokee County students.
